Weekly Review 108

Hello, readers! Another week has passed and I’m excited to share it with you! Most of the week was slow, but there were a few moments that stood out and they were so much fun.

On Monday morning Mr. O woke up not feeling well. Lea and I decided not to take him to school. Instead, the little man rested at home. While he and his momma were relaxing, and I was working, our drywall was finally finished in the basement and my father-in-law can come back and finish the rest of it. We’re so excited!

In the evening we watched the White Sox playoff game, and then I did laundry, dishes, and made dinner. Lea started to not feel well too, so we braced for a rough week ahead. When dinner finally finished cooking, I ran to the pharmacy to pick up Mr O’s medicine. Then I put him to bed for the night and went downstairs to watch Monday Night Football and walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes. I didn’t get to finish the game, though, because Mr. O woke up about an hour later calling for me. So I went upstairs and went to bed early so he would fall asleep again. It was a long start to the week.

On Tuesday Lea and Mr O slept in. Both not feeling great. I spent the morning doing a crossword and enjoying my quiet house. In the afternoon (on my lunch break) I went to Cedar Lake Kitchen to pick up two quarts of lemon rice soup for Lea and Mr. O (and also for me, but mostly for them). The evening was uneventful. I took care of my family and then did some chores before going to bed.

I had Wednesday off from work, and I spent my morning “arguing” with Mr. O about whether Winston the Cat was a boy or a cat. Apparently, he cannot be both. I told him Winnie is a boy cat and he just doesn’t believe me. “I’m a boy. He’s a cat”, Mr. O said. Once we squashed our beef, we got ready to go on Mr. O’s first school field trip ever!

The class went to Windmill Acres in Beecher, Illinois. It was a chilly morning, but it was perfect for a farm and pumpkin patch visit.

We had so much fun together. Mr. O didn’t really care to stay with his class, or play with his classmates (that I know he enjoys playing with). Instead, he wandered. He looked around, played with different things, and wanted to play with me. I tried to get him to be social, which he normally is, but he didn’t want to be, and that’s okay. I’m not going to force him to play with others if he doesn’t want to, you know?

Eventually, he did end up playing a bit with the other kids at the playground. It made me happy to see he did it on his own and not because I made him. When we came back from the field trip, Lea went to the doctor while Mr. O and I cut the grass. By the time we were done, my mother-in-law came into town to help us out since Lea was sick and Mr. O was just getting over whatever he had. I’m glad she did. She was a lot of help and we appreciate it!

In the evening, we watched another Sox playoff game and ate dinner. It was a long day. Thank God, and I mean it sincerely, that he has kept me safe from these illnesses going around my house. I’m glad I’ve been okay so I am able to take care of my family.

Thursday was another normal day here. I had Thursday off as well, and I spent it mostly with family. In the morning, I had a doctors appointment (scheduled before everyone else got sick!), and then I spent the day hanging out at home, playing with Mr. O. He got his energy back so fast. I was surprised and happy to see that. In the evening, I made my bbq chicken dinner while my mother-in-law made homemade mashed potatoes and corn. It was a good dinner. We watched another Sox playoff game and then I went to bed. Like I said earlier, it was a long week. I’ve been exhausted.

On Friday morning I dropped Mr. O off at school. It’s been easier lately, but he’s been giving extra hugs before I go. At least he’s not screaming and crying anymore. In the evening, his school had a Trunk-or-Treat event, where parents volunteered to decorate their cars and the kids trick-or-treated. It was really cool! Here is how Lea decorated our car. She’s so talented:

Mr. O also wore his Batman costume

I took him around to trick-or-treat for a bit, then switched with Lea’s mom. When he came back, he was consumed: “Why the kids are taking MY candy?!”. We explained to him the candy in the bowl at our car was for the other kids, and that they were doing the same thing he did at the other cars, but he did not understand. Instead, he guarded “his” candy for a few minutes, lol.

A couple of hours later and the event was over. We went home, Batman went to bed, and I started playing NCAA college football 27, which I started downloading hours earlier on the PS5. It’s a fun game and I am enjoying it! I started as a high school recruit, worked my way up to a 4 or 5 star recruit, and was wanted by many colleges. I ended up choosing to take my talents to Nebraska, but it didn’t feel right. So I deleted it and started all over. I think I want to go to a school who is ranked horribly and bring them a national title. That’d be cool. I stayed up until midnight playing, lol. I haven’t done that in forever with a game.

On Saturday morning we all slept in (for different reasons). Lea and Mr O slept in because although they were starting to feel better, they still needed to get some extra rest. As for me, I was up playing a video game until my eyes started closing.

Once we all woke up and got ready, we went to another farm and pumpkin patch. This time with Lea’s Mom’s group. All of her friends and their kids were there too, it was a good time.

When we left, Mr. O and Lea’s mom went home, while Lea and I went to Ashley Furniture and bought a new couch for our basement. Then we picked up Panda Express for lunch and went home. In the evening, we watched the final White Sox game of the year. They lost the hard fought series to the Guardians, but at least this time we have a bright future to look forward to.

Sunday was a lazy day. We watched football all day, did laundry, and hung out together and played. No, I don’t want to talk about the Bears game. I will say no more!

It was a good week, and my family is finally starting to feel better.

A Moment I’m Still Thinking About

I loved taking Mr. O on his first field trip! He was so cute and had so much fun. It was a special morning and I’m so glad I could be with him to experience it.
