Weekly Review 107

Hello, readers! Once again it was a slow week here in our household. We were in our normal routine again and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The week brought us cozy fall weather, time spent with friends, a wonderful wedding, and lots of football.

Around 5 AM on Monday morning, Mr. O made his presence known in our bedroom. I could hear his heavy footsteps getting closer and closer, until they stopped, and there was complete silence (for about five seconds). “Daaaadddyyyyyyy!” He whined next to my side of the bed. I waved him in and he climbed up over me, laid his head down on the other pillow, and passed out again. I love that he finds comfort with us.

An hour later we were up for the day. Mr. O and I went downstairs to eat breakfast. When we were done, we had some time to play before we had to get ready for school and work. Mr. O pretended to be a waiter taking my order. His restaurant has terrible customer service, but the food is good, so that’s probably how they keep the lights on.

We played for a while before getting ready to leave. Once we got on the road we were hit with terrible fog. I could barely see five feet in front of me! It was kind of cool, actually. We eventually made it around the corner to the school and said our goodbyes. It’s been easier to drop him off lately. He hasn’t cried recently so that is good. He’s adjusting! In the evening, we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner with Mr. O’s godparents. It was a lot of fun! It’s been a while since we’ve seen them, so it was nice to catch up and for Mr. O to spend time with them. At the same time, the Bears were also playing on Monday Night Football, and since I couldn’t really see the TV at the restaurant, I ended up turning the game on the radio as we drove home. There’s just something about listening to sports on the radio. I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s cool.

When we got home we turned the game on the TV quickly (well, I did at least. The other two didn’t care either way). The Bears ended up crushing the Eagles, all while using their third-string, 38 year old (I think) quarterback. What a performance the team put on and I hope they can build on it and rack up some wins until Caleb Williams comes back from his injury.

On Tuesday morning I was up early. I ate my breakfast then worked on my Cousins Fantasy Football League newsletter that I started last year, when we first created the league. It’s a lot of fun and I really enjoy it. One of my younger cousins has been helping me out with it this year and it’s made it a lot easier on me. The rest of the league enjoys it too. It’s one of those things where taking it seriously makes it a little bit funnier, because it’s not serious at all.

In the afternoon, Lea took Mr. O to the park and I went for a walk on my lunch break. It was beautiful outside and a great 20 minutes away from all screens. After work I played outside with Mr. O for a little bit, until Lea realized we didn’t have any syrup, so I had to run to the store while she finished making breakfast for dinner. We had eggs and pancakes! After dinner I logged on to my PS5 and played Baldur’s Gate 3 with a couple of my buddies. It was a good end to a long day.

There’s an odd sense of relief whenever Wednesday comes around. It’s relief with a hint of dread. “Oh thank goodness it’s Wednesday already”, and also, “Ugh! I can’t believe it’s only Wednesday!”. Am I the only one who feels this way every week? Maybe, but I doubt it. Anyways, our whole family was up pretty early. Lea and I were getting ready for work, while simultaneously getting Mr. O ready for school. Getting this kid to eat breakfast in the morning might be one of the most time consuming parts of the day! He just wants to play before he leaves, lol. Well, when he was home from school, and I was off of work, we were finally able to sit down and play together. We built another fortress for his Paw Patrol toys, played the Spiderman game on the PlayStation, made dinner and watched train videos.

He’s been really into this one YouTube channel. I can’t remember the name but he loves watching this guy unbox trains his viewers have sent him, and then he fixes them up and puts them on his track. Mr. O goes nuts for it. After he went to sleep, I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes before sitting down to play Red Dead Redemption 2, and then finally going to bed.

Thursday morning is my favorite morning of the whole week. I woke up, by myself, and ate breakfast. Then, I went into my office, sat in the corner chair underneath all of my icons, and…did nothing. I sat there in silence, listening to the world around me as my window was open. I closed my eyes, took a few deep breaths, and relaxed. Eventually, I brought over my crossword book and did a couple of those before deciding it was time to go upstairs and get ready for the day. In the evening, Mr. O played while I did some laundry. Then we watched What’s New Scooby Do on TV before finally calling it a night and going to bed. We did our normal wrestling match before laying down and reading a few books. Soon enough, Mr. O was curled up with his stuffed animals, snoring his way into a deep sleep. I snuck out of his room and went back downstairs, ending my night with some video games.

Friday morning was more of the same. We were all up and getting Mr. O ready for school. Lea was taking him this time, so I didn’t have to rush too much to get my day going. The day went by quickly and before I knew it was off of work. Mr. O and I played for a bit before I started making dinner. I baked my bbq chicken recipe instead of grilling it, and it was pretty good. I made mashed potatoes and peas with it. Lea went over to one of her friends homes for the evening, so it was just me and my boy. After we ate, we watched a couple YouTube videos of the Blue Angels flying around and doing tricks, and also played with his toys, kicked a ball around, and eventually when upstairs to take a bath and wrestle before bed. It was a good day.

Saturday was another fun day. To start, Mr O and I hung out downstairs and played. Then, the White Sox played their first game in the ALDS series and WON on the road! It was such an incredible game. We were watching and listening on the radio while Lea and I were getting ready to go to a friend’s wedding.

The night was great. We were kid free (no offense to Mr O) and it was awesome. Lea and I had a lot of fun with some of our friends and family. We laughed, danced (for a few minutes. I’m not a big dancer.) and hung out until about 11:30PM. Then we came home and passed out from being on our feet all night.

On Sunday morning we all slept in. Mr O came into our room around 2 or 3 AM and then we all slept until around 8. It was much needed. Currently, we’ve been watching football all day (GO BEARS!). I worked a little bit of overtime and once I finished I’ve been playing with Mr O and watching the games. It’s a relaxing Sunday and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A Moment I’m Still Thinking About

I absolutely loved spending the entire afternoon and evening with my wife. We haven’t had a full night to ourselves in so long! It was great not having to worry about anything and just relaxing and enjoying ourselves.

That wraps up this week’s edition of my Weekly Review! How was your week? I hope it was great!
