Hello, readers! Welcome to my weekly review where I share my precious week with you. Tonight, I am writing to you from a random Hampton Inn in Bedford, Indiana. It’s over 3 hours away from our home in the region. I’ll explain why soon! This week had sad endings, new beginnings, face paintings, and family time.
My week started slowly on Monday morning. Once again, I was the first person awake in our household. I went downstairs, opened a few windows to let the chilly air in, and slowed my life down a bit. I flipped my phone over and ignored it. I had a bowl of cereal, read my book, and took my time. It was a peaceful hour to start my day.
When the rest of my family woke up, I played with Mr. O for a while before starting work. On my lunch break I went for a nice walk. The cold air went away and there was beautiful warm sunshine all around me. I enjoy walking without my headphones in. I like listening to life being lived around me. The cars driving nearby, kids playing, neighbors cutting their grass. It’s relaxing.
In the evening, I was outside again. This time I was with my boy, though. We brought out his jeep and he chased me in circles in our yard with it, pretending he was trying to run me over. Then, when he became bored of attempting to harm me, we got in his little blue push-car and went around the block. What was supposed to be a nice walk pushing my son on his car turned into him yelling, “Faster! Faster!”, and me sprinting around the whole block. He only allowed me a minute or two between sprints. It was quite the workout.
When we came home for dinner, Lea made tacos. After dinner we played some more, then I put him to bed. Once he was asleep I snuck out of his room and went back downstairs to finish some work training, play Madden, and read my book. Then I finally fell asleep. It was a good start to the week.
Tuesday was Mr. O’s last day of daycare. He starts preschool on Monday and we’re all very sad! He still doesn’t understand that he’s not going back to daycare and it breaks my heart because he keeps talking about Rara (who runs the daycare) and how he wants to show her things and tell her things.
After we got him dressed and ready to go, Lea wanted to take “last day of daycare” pictures. She bought this sign for him. One side says “first day” and the other says “last day”. We told him to hold the sign, but he was holding it too low. So we told him to hold it higher, but then he was blocking his face, lol. Then we told him to lower it and hold it by his tummy, and that ended with the sign snagging his shirt and as he lifted it his whole shirt lifted up with it. It was a mess, but we eventually got the pictures we wanted!
When Mr. O and Lea left the house, I spent a good chunk of my morning sitting on my blue rocking chair on our porch. I was reading my new book, Pardon My Book: Ten Years of the Best (and worst) in Sports from Pardon Mt Take. It’s a great read. I love Pardon My Take. AWL for life!
It was another beautiful and cool morning. I enjoyed myself, and then the electrician came to work on our basement. In the evening, Lea and Mr. O came home. My boy was exhausted from his last day. He plopped down on the couch and laid there for hours. He watched Paw Patrol and some other shows for a bit. After he went to bed, I finally finished my Exploring the Region post. It will be published on Tuesday!
On Wednesday morning we noticed Mr. O had three mosquito bites on his face. One on each cheek and one on the back of his neck. Poor guy was trying to scratch them. He was ticked off! “I’m going to find the bugs and crush them!”, he screamed at me.
It was also dawning on him this morning that Tuesday was his last day at daycare. He’s confused as to what I mean when I say, “you’re not going back, you’re going to preschool now.” His attention was quickly taken away when he realized his grandfather (my father-in-law) was coming back to stay with us for the rest of the week to start drywalling our basement. Mr. O turned into his personal, human alarm clock each morning.
In the evening, we played and ate dinner. Then Lea and I laid down in bed to watched Surviving Barstool on my iPad. Before we even started, Mr. O was up and wanting to sleep with us, so he watched it too, Lol.
On Thursday morning I was up with Mr. O, except we had nowhere to go this time. It was a strange feeling, but it comes with him growing up. Things change. In the evening we had a “back to school bash” at his preschool. He had so much fun playing with all the toys in his classroom and running around with all of the other kids on the playground. One of Leas friends also has her son going to this preschool, so him and Mr. O played together for a while before we all left and went to Culver’s to have dinner together.
When we came home, we watched a little bit of the Paw Patrol Movie before Mr. O went to sleep. After I snuck out of his room, I had Lea read my Exploring the Region post. She said, “ I tried. I couldn’t get through it. It was boring!”, which was strange because I also read through it and I enjoyed it.
Isn’t it obvious what’s going on here? She just has bad taste! Sorry there’s no magic, dragons, and passionate adult scenes (that are slightly inappropriate for books) in my HISTORICAL posts! Anyways, be sure to give it a read when it comes out. If you’re new to my site, that was all in good fun. I’m just teasing my wife a bit, and if I’m being honest, some of her books are good! I’ve read a couple of them.
Later in the evening, Mr. O came to sleep with us once again and we all slept horribly. I was also up early on Friday because we were tossing and turning all night, so I was basically up. I had a killer headache and I popped two Tylenol. I ate and did the dishes, hoping it would go away, but it stayed for a while.
When my little family was finally up for the day, I went back upstairs to get ready for work and help out with some laundry. In the late afternoon, Lea and Mr. O took a drive to Lemon Lake. There was some kind of kids fest going on, and Mr. O got to meet Spiderman! He also had his face painted with the Spiderman mask, lol. He looked adorable and was so sad when we had to wash it off.
After he took another shower and washed it off, we put on his pajamas before we had our nighttime wrestling match. My night eventually ended with me dozing off while reading my book. It’s a nightly issue!
Now, I’ll explain why we’re 3 hours south of our home in a random Hampton Inn in Bedford, Indiana. We woke up early Saturday morning and started packing for the overbite trip we were taking. One of Lea’s cousins got married today and we drove all the way down here for their wedding! The drive itself was terrible. It was one of the most boring drives I’ve ever had. The only good part of it was hearing Mr. O play with his toys in the back.
When we arrived at the hotel, my in-laws were also there. Turns out, we have adjoining rooms (lucky us!). Mr. O loved running back and forth between the two rooms. After I brought up all of our stuff from the car, I left to go buy us lunch. I found a nearby Starbucks and bought us some food to hold us over. When I came back, my brother-in-law and his family pulled into the lot and we walked up to our room together. All the kids ran around and played until it was time to get ready and go to the wedding.
It was a beautiful scene.

We had so much fun spending the day together and seeing Lea’s other family that we never see, or that I haven’t met before. At the reception, Mr. O and his cousins ran all over the place. Mostly in the grass, but occasionally through the reception hall. It was a great time. He exhausted himself! Currently, as I write this, it is a 11:30pm ET. Mr. O is knocked out next to me and Lea is reading in the other queen bed by herself. I’m about to fall asleep! I will finish writing this post tomorrow when we get home. Goodnight! Talk to you soon…
Hello again. It’s Sunday and we’ve been home for a while now and I’ve finally given myself time to write the rest of this. Earlier this morning, I woke up around 7 AM, while Lea and Mr. O slept in for another hour (it was a long night). When they woke up we met with Lea’s mom and went down to the lobby for breakfast. Mr. O started a game of guessing which elevator door was going to open. He went 1 – for – 4 throughout the weekend. He’s not happy with his performance.
In the lobby we made waffles and grabbed some of the other breakfast items. Then, when we finished, we headed back to our room to finish packing our things and then putting it in the car. We said our goodbyes to Lea’s parents, got gas, and hit the road. Three hours later we were finally home. We unpacked our things and Lea went to the store. I worked a little overtime for about an hour while Mr. O played with his toys.
Then we ate lunch, watched a couple episodes on Smallville, and played. Currently, Lea is napping, Mr. O is next to me on the couch watching the Paw Patrol movie again, and I am enjoying the time at home. Later tonight Lea and I will be watching Surviving Barstool and Lanterns! It should be an enjoyable evening.
A Moment I’m Still Thinking About
This wasn’t mentioned, but at the wedding reception Mr. O wanted to sit with me on the patio and stare at the sky. For a few moments he wasn’t talking nonstop, he was just taking it all in and asking me questions. It was a sweet, peaceful moment with my boy.
I hope you enjoyed this weeks review! Be sure to subscribe if you haven’t yet (please & thank you!).
