Today I Noticed: ‘Tis Autumn

The other day, as I was sitting in my home office swiveling left-to-right in my chair, I was listening to Lullaby of the Leaves by Ella Fitzgerald on the ‘Tis Autumn playlist on Spotify. As I listened carefully to the lyrics, images from my childhood started flooding my mind.

One specific memory came straight to the front and I think this song is the reason why. It truly captured that moment in time for me. In my memory, I am walking to school. The crisp fall air is blowing around me and coursing through my body with every breath I take. Some leaves are rustling on the ground, while others are stuck in the cracks of the concrete, crunching under my boots as I walk over them.

It was a short memory, but it instantly came to mind when Lullaby of the Leaves started playing. Something about this memory, and about autumn in general, is so calming. I’ve come to love that season and I am eagerly waiting for it! I love the aesthetic. The colors green, brown, and orange together are so cozy. I love the gloominess that is outside most days in the fall. I love wearing my flannels and hoodies; jeans and boots. Something about the autumn season is slow and cozy and I have been loving it more and more as the years go by.
