Weekly Review 95

Hello, readers! Welcome to the 95th edition of my Weekly Review. Throughout this post I will tell you about my previous week, and how I finished the Great Ant War of 2026, felt foolish for ever believing Team USA had a chance in the World Cup tournament, more cute things Mr. O said, a trip to the beach, and more! As always, it started on Monday…

I was the first one up in our home (as always) and after I ate breakfast I decided it was time to set out these ant traps Lea ordered. I put one in our bathroom, closed the door and went downstairs. In the evening, I played with Mr. O while Lea made fajitas. While we were eating dinner and watching the USA vs. Belgium game, Lea was trying to tell Mr. O something. She told him “turn your listening ears” on. To which he replied, “No, never!”, as he covered his ears. That was the end of that conversation.

In regards to the USA game…they suck! I can’t believe these are the “best” players we’ve “ever had”. How are they even the best to choose from? It was so embarrassing how poorly they played. A truly pathetic game overall.

On Tuesday morning, Mr. O and I did our usual daycare routine. After I dropped him off, I opened all of the windows in the car. It was so beautiful outside! The sun was out, the air was cold, but also warm, and it was a perfect morning for a peaceful drive home. The workday went by as fast as it usually does (not fast enough), and in the evening, I cut the grass with Mr. O until he got bored and ended up taking a lap around the block with Lea. When they came home I was still working on the yard, so Lea finally got him to go inside so she could make dinner. I believe on this night she made fettuccine alfredo pasta with garlic bread. Unfortunately, I took so long outside I wasn’t able to eat with my family. When I was finally done, I had to come in, shower, then heat up my food. I’m not sure what’s going on but lately I’ve been moving so slow when cutting the grass.

While I was eating my dinner, Lea was putting Mr. O to bed for the night. I turned on Home Improvement and enjoyed a little bit of quiet in my life…until this fly made its presence known in our house! Winston the Cat came sprinting down the stairs chasing it. I ran and got my swatter and the two of us sat there quietly in our living room waiting for it to make its next move. Eventually, the fly came back around and landed on the TV. I slowly picked up the swatter, tip-toed to the TV, and…BAM! I got it. Winston was a little upset, he wanted to catch it, but he was too slow.

On Wednesday I didn’t take too many notes, but there was one thing that stuck with me enough that I was able to write down. After hanging out with Mr. O in the evening, I did his bedtime routine. We laid down and afterwards, as we were lying there, a few fireworks were going off in the distance. He was scared of them, but he looked at me and said, “Dada, don’t be scared. I’m here to protect you.” It was really sweet because that’s what I say to him about things and that’s what he remembers when he thinks I’m afraid.

After lying with him for a while, he finally fell asleep. I wasn’t feeling too hot so I snuck out and went to bed early. It felt great. On Thursday morning I drove him to daycare again. This time he didn’t want me to leave. Mornings like this break my heart, but it’s for the best for me to leave him there instead of taking him back home like he asks. “I just want to go home, Dada”. After he was convinced to stay, I walked back to my car. When I got in and started it, I looked up at the big window in the front of the house. Mr. O was standing there, snack in hand, looking back at me. I smiled and waved to him. He smiled and waved back. He was happy and content.

In the afternoon, Lea picked him up and dropped him off back at home, then she left for her parents for the night. Our niece was in a play on Friday and she went down to visit family and watch the play. So with Lea gone it was a boys night here in the region. Mr. O and I hung out and ate dinner. Afterwards we had a more relaxing night than we normally would. Mr. O scraped his knee at daycare and he was limping the rest of the night. He said his leg hurt too bad for him to pick up his toys, but he was okay to kick the ball back and forth with me, Lol.

After we played for a bit, I gave him a bath and we wrestled in his room. He “won” as always and then fell asleep. My boy was tired!

In the middle of the night, or should I say early Friday morning, Mr. O woke up and wanted to sleep with me. He came and cuddled in my bed and then we ended up sleeping in until 7 AM. Well, I did. Mr. O slept until 8 AM. Around 8:30 my mom came to pick him up. She had the day off and since Lea was gone she offered to take him to her house for the day. He was so excited. The day went by quickly, and before I knew it my house was full of people. My mom brought Mr. O home, then Lea and her parents got here. Mr. O watched the movie Lightyear before bed and once he was out for the night, the rest of us hung out for a bit before calling it a day too. We had a busy Saturday coming up!

In the morning we all prepared for the beach. We were heading to the Indiana Dunes State Park! The beach is beautiful, surrounded by Lake Michigan, and connects us to Chicago and other cities around the lake. In fact, you can see the Chicago skyline from the Dunes. It’s really cool!

When we arrived, we were not off to a hot start. The traffic to get into the park was awful, and then when we finally found a spot to sit for the day, Mr. O dropped a huge rock on my toe. It hurt so bad, but it didn’t ruin the day. He apologized and all was well. We spent the morning playing in the sand and water. Mr. O had a blast. There was also a wedding on the beach and then later in the afternoon a few baptisms in the lake. It was a really eventful day, Lol.

After four or five hours we went home. Mr. O slept for about an hour on the car ride home, and then we ordered a pizza from Aurelio’s and watched both World Cup soccer games. It was a great day.

On Sunday we all slept in. We spent the morning playing, doing laundry, and I cut the grass. Now, I’m writing this blog, Mr. O is napping, and Lea is watching the show You. I’ve never seen it. Seems strange, Lol.

Well, that wraps up my week! I hope you all had a great week, and that you have a great week ahead.

A Moment I’m Still Thinking About

I’m still thinking about how much fun our little boy had at the beach. He went nuts playing in the water with Lea and he was laughing and smiling the entire time we were there. I can’t wait to take him back again.
