Easter #1

2024’s first Easter started off a little rough, but ended up being a great weekend spent with family. Here’s what happened:

Friday

I woke up at my normal time on my work – from – home days, 5 a.m. I have to get up early so I can get myself ready and eat before little master O awakens from his slumber. The master of the house usually wakes up between 6 and 7 a.m., so with that time I usually shower, get dressed, and eat my breakfast. It also gives me time to get his breakfast ready too so he doesn’t have to wait! On Friday he woke up around 6 a.m. I gave him his whole milk and oatmeal and the day was off to a great start.

Naturally, he made a mess of his oatmeal by spreading it all over his high chair tray and then onto his face. He ended his meal by playing with a spoon and launching the oatmeal even further away from him. He likes it I promise! While he ate we listened to some Sinatra and he danced by wiggling his shoulders and his head. He likes that kind of music lol. When baby O was done eating, we played for a bit on the floor. It’s insane how many noisy toys this kid has. He has one, an elephant that shoots balls out of its nose and plays a little song, that he absolutely loves more than any other toy on most days. He will constantly press the button that starts the music, which means we have to hear the same song for at least a half hour lol. It’s very fun!

After playtime was over (for me), I headed into my home office to work. Thankfully, we got off early for the holiday. I went downstairs and joined my family as we hung out for the rest of the night and enjoyed each others company.

Saturday

I woke up at 5 in the morning again. It’s becoming a habit now and I can’t break it. Once again, baby O was up around 6 a.m. and once again I made him oatmeal (different flavor) and we watched Monsters Inc for the thousandth time. It’s a great movie, and even more fun when you know all of the words. Once we finished the movie Lea said it was time to finish packing so we went upstairs and did that.  Shortly after, we left for my in-laws.

Our drive started normally. Nothing out of the ordinary was happening. I drove, we stopped at Dunkin’ Donuts on our way out of town, and I put on Pardon My Take for the car ride. It wasn’t until we had an hour and fifteen minutes left in our drive that something out of the ordinary happened. As we approached a set of train tracks, while being in the middle of nowhere Indiana, I slowed down (which I normally don’t do for these. If you didn’t know, we’ve been doing this drive for ten years now). Well, that might have been a mistake. Once we passed over the tracks, there was a horrible scratching sound coming from Lea’s car. We pulled over on the side of the road and got out to see what was wrong. Flat tire? No. License plate on the front of the car smacking against the car? No. Finally, we look underneath the front of the car and the plate (I think it’s called a safety plate or heat shield or something) was hanging down scraping the road.

“Well this sucks” we both said. So Lea called Geico to try and see if they could send a tow, and I contacted my in-laws to see if they were able to come pick us up and we would just have our car towed to our destination. Well, with our incredible luck, no towing company was wanting to work on this Saturday, which is understandable, it’s a holiday….but it is a business as well, right? You’re open so why wouldn’t you help out? I don’t know. Lots of unanswered questions. So after getting off the phone and wasting an hour of our time, we called the local police and an officer came to us within five minutes. You know how they say small town folks are really friendly? Well, that is absolutely true.

Thank God this police officer came to help us. Me and him took his car and drove to the Dollar General up the road, bought some zip ties, and when we came back to Lea and baby O, the officer got on his back, climbed under our car, and zip tied the part of the shield that was hanging down and got it to stay up for us. It truly was a blessing. Who knows how long we would have been stuck there on the side of the road. Soon after, my mother-in-law met up with us on the road and followed us for the last hour of the drive to make sure the plate stayed in place under the car. Thankfully, we made it!

Once we got into town we went straight to Applebee’s because we were all starving. Baby O flirted with the waitress and would not stop staring and smiling at every one around us. He’s just the cutest. Lunch was great, and faster than I thought. After our five star meal at Applebee’s, we went to my in-laws and brought all of our luggage inside and hung out for an hour or two. Then we went to my brother-in-laws house so Baby O could visit with his cousins. They’re 9 and 6 years older than him, but they are so good at playing with him. He loves them!

Once we left there and went back to Lea’s parents, it was time for bed. Saturday was exhausting for all of us. Me and baby O slept together in the guest bed, while Lea slept in a different room. I love cuddling my little guy, but that night was rough. Not for him, he slept like an angel, but for me! He is so funny. He had a whole side of the bed he could have slept on, but he has to sleep sideways. Meaning, his head was near the wall and his feet were on my stomach all night. Every time he moved (which was a lot!) he would kick his feet lol. So, long story short, I barely got any sleep last night. It was worth it though. My son was comfortable and sleeping well and that’s all that matters. He proceeded to wake up at 5am. I was still half asleep. I remember opening my eyes and he’s sitting there bouncing on his knees on the bed clapping and smiling at me lol. Then I closed my eyes for a bit, opened them back up, and we were basically nose to nose. It was so cute haha! Lea came in and we were going to swap rooms. She was going to sleep with baby O for the rest of the morning and I was going to go to the other room and sleep for a while.

However, before I could get up, baby O was standing on his knees, with his arms on my stomach, and when I moved to get out of the bed he turned his body so his butt was in my face and he farted – right in my face. Which was then followed by a giggle. He’s just the best lol.

Sunday/Monday

Finally, it was Easter Sunday. After I woke up from a good sleep, I could hear my boy playing downstairs with his grandparents, so I took advantage of that and got ready for the day. An hour later the family was arriving. It was a fun day, filled with laughter and Easter egg hunts. Before we knew it the day was over, and then it was Monday and we were driving back home hoping the bottom of Lea’s car wasn’t going to fall off in the middle of nowhere. Thankfully, we made it home okay. It was a long weekend that started off so rough for us. But in the end it was totally worth it all.

Can’t wait to see what Easter #2 has in store for us! (By Easter #2 I mean Orthodox Easter).

I hope all who celebrate had a great Easter, and those who don’t had a great weekend!
