Traveling down memory lane

Tonight I wanted to take a trip down memory lane. A few memories came to mind that reminded me why the summer of 2015 was one of my favorites ever.

That summer was my last “free” summer. Or my last summer as a student I should say. It was the summer leading into my senior year of college and there wasn’t much I had to do – besides complete an internship related to my major (which was criminal justice).

I don’t recall what made me apply so late, but I do remember the professor who coordinates all that being very annoyed with me, lol. I don’t blame him! Thankfully they still had openings at the local police department near the university. However, since I applied late, they could only stick me with the detectives. Which was really awesome if I’m being honest.

I went in to the department two or three times a week (I can’t really remember), and I would be with different detectives each time. It was such a eye – opening experience. Mostly, I was with a man named…let’s just make this up and call him John. John was a very experienced detective, and he was so nice to me throughout the summer. I’ll never forget it.

Another thing I’ll never forget was my first day as an intern. John and I were driving around town, and as we drove down the small one – way streets, almost everyone we passed waved and shouted his name. He just laughed and waved back. No question, these were people in town he’s dealt with before lol. I remember him asking me “If we run in to [redacted], can I count on you to have my back if things go south?” lol. Of course I said “Oh yeah, for sure.” My thoughts were this: I was young and in shape. And I also figured the chances of anything like that happening were low!

It was a great time, and only added to what was turning out to be an awesome summer. Beside the internship, I worked at a fireworks store. That was fun and it was easy money to make, which leads me to one of my favorite memories of the summer. With that money, my roommate and I would go sit on the top patio of this bar multiple times throughout the week, when neither of us were interning or working.

The sun would be going down, the breeze felt amazing, and we would just sip on ice cold beer, talk, and look into the distance as the old dorms were being demolished by a wrecking ball lol. It was quite the site to see. That’s a really fun and relaxing memory that I’ve been thinking about lately. Things were so easy and simple back then.

Other things that made that summer great:

Going to the bar whenever we wanted.

Having the money to go do whatever we wanted with almost no responsibilities.

Spending time with the good friends I made the previous three years.

Going to this whole – in – the – wall bar/seafood restaurant that would serve the best cod sandwich I have ever had. Unfortunately, it closed recently.

So many good times from that summer. I hope you enjoyed traveling down memory lane with me tonight.
