DC Comics Storyline Part 9

Hello and welcome back to my DC Comics storyline series! Here you’ll find my opinions on three recent books I’ve read from DC Comics and, hopefully, some suggestions for yourself if you become interested. I love reading these comics. They are so much fun and it’s nice to let my mind wander into a different world for a little bit. Let’s get started!

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #2

“The Man of Steel and the Dark Knight have arrived at the compound of Niles Caulder – the Chief in charge of that strange band of misfits known as the Doom Patorl – but all is not as it seems. While Batman works with Niles to cure Superman of his freakish transformations, a side mission to track a mysterious figure known as “the Demon” attracts the Dark Knight’s attention…and moreover, it could have some connection to Superman’s poisoning at the hands of Metallo! It’s danger, intrigue, and the surprise appearance of Deadman in chapter two of World’s Finest!” – DC.com

As you can see there was a lot going on in this issue. We have another “Superman is going to die” story to kick it off (which is tiring if I’m being honest). However, the story pulled me back in when we see the big, brooding Batman get deep into his emotions. For a character who is a very tough guy, there are times when he has feelings. In this case, he wants to see his friend, Superman, live. He hates seeing him hurt and in pain.

This issue was also quite funny at certain times. For instance, the dynamic between Robin and Supergirl was very cute and funny. I think there is definitely some sort of relationship going on there. It was a really interesting issue and I can’t wait to read the third one!

Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons #2

“The second installment of the jaw-dropping ambitious history of the Amazons finds their future queen, Hippolyta, cutting a swath through the world of men, desperate to be reunited with the astonishing women who saved her life…but unfortunately for her, they’re hard folk to find. Perhaps it is the will of the Goddesses that they cross paths again…but before that moment, Hippolyta will gather to herself a tribe of her very own – and find that the hearts of all women do not necessarily burn with a flame as righteous as her own…” – DC.com

I really enjoyed this issue. Once again, the artwork is so awesome. I also love how the character of Wonder Woman delves into Greek mythology. It’s such an interesting part of her life and character. It’s very cool. It was a much darker issue than the first (in my opinion). There are some hard truths that come to light, and to make things worse for the “future queen”, the almighty Zeus has found out the Amazons exist. We’ll find out what happens next with the conclusion of this story in issue number 3!

Strange Adventures #1

“Adam Strange is the hero of Rann, a man famous throughout the galaxy for his bravery and honor. After leading his adopted home to victory in a great planetary war, Adam and his wife Alanna retire to Earth, where they are greeted by cheers, awards and parades. But not all is as happy and nice as it seems, as the decisions Adam made during battles on Rann come back to haunt his family and threaten the entire DC Universe. And now a surprise DC hero will have to choose between saving Adam Strange and saving the world.” DC.com

For this issue of the DC Comics storyline, I wanted to read and write about something fresh. This character and his story are completely new to me. I never paid attention to Adam Strange until a few weeks ago, when I saw someone on X (formerly known as Twitter), mention a rumor that this story will be adapted into the new DC cinematic universe (the DCU).

Let me start by saying this story is NOT for children. It’s very graphic. Like most of the other comics, it has great artwork, and is very well – written. However, as you know I am biased when it comes to the writing because it’s written by Tom King, who I really enjoy reading. All I can really say so far is WOW! What a way to start the series. It was a fantastic issue. I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just leave you with the italicized summary from Dc.com above, and mention that there is a big surprise at the end of the issue! It’s a character that I don’t think many people would guess. Enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed this edition of DC Comic Storylines! Please share and subscribe.
