What is going on at Nickelodeon?

Good morning, happy Friday! It’s beautiful out this morning here in the region. Currently, I’m sitting at our kitchen table eating a bowl of multi – grain cheerios (because I’m an old man) with the back door open, listening to birds chirping. It’s a great spring/summer morning. Now, although this morning is beautiful, I wanted to share something I saw recently that troubled me. Maybe I’m late on this, but I just noticed it myself for the first time last week.

Last week, Oliver and I were sitting on the floor watching TV. Since he likes looking at lots of colors, and because I am a man – child, I went to the popular (at least when I was a kid) kid’s channel, Nickelodeon, to put on Spongebob Squarepants. That show has always been a favorite of mine – at every age! lol. The humor is just so silly, but it can also be really funny and adult – like. Anyways, I turned this channel on and the first commercial is about immigration in the United States and Title 42. Why is this on a kids channel? Regardless of your beliefs on this political issue, we should all be asking why kids are being shown this when they’re just trying to watch Spongebob escape from Rock Bottom, or Squidward’s rivalry with Squilliam Fancyson.

I did some research recently and it seems Nickelodeon has a ton of political ads. What are they trying to do? Turn kids into activists? This is insane (in my opinion). It seems like kids today can’t just be left alone to be kids. Why? Why can’t kids in this country just have normal childhoods in society today? I’m going to try my hardest to make sure Oliver has a great and normal upbringing, without the political pressures of this world crushing his shoulders and stressing him out.

That’s another thing – why are we shoving politics down kids throats? They shouldn’t have to deal with the stress that it brings. Like I said, let kids be kids. If a child wants to know about something political, or politics in general, they should ask their parents, guardians, family members, whoever is the parental figure in their life. I don’t believe they should be brainwashed by a former kids channel. I say former because from what I saw it does not look like one anymore, although they try to make it seem like it is. I didn’t stay on the channel long enough to hear which position the channel took, but as I said above, I don’t think it matters. I just think political talk shouldn’t be on a channel like that.

Well, there’s my rant for the day. That’s been bugging me and on my mind for over a week now, so I’m glad I finally got this off my chest. I guess the only thing that can be done about it is to not watch that channel lol I don’t know. These are just my beliefs and concerns. If you disagree that’s okay too. I hope you have a great Friday and an awesome weekend!

Peter
