Christmas Traditions (Old & New)

Let me start off by saying that I am now on Twitter. I know I said I didn’t want to get on there because it was filled with hate and very toxic, but I wanted to see how it was under new ownership. I also realized Twitter itself was not what was so toxic – it was my old account. I got too into politics and the site just wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore. However, I have created a new account, a personal account, and I’v started fresh. I follow only who I want to follow (mostly sports, movie, and comic accounts) and I have to say it is much more enjoyable. You can follow me there @LarzHoneytoast3 (don’t ask). You can also follow me on GETTR & Parler @TheRegionLife. Alright, let’s get started!

It is officially Christmas time! Everyone has their own Christmas traditions. Some are big, some are small, but they are always fun because you have these traditions with people you love. Today I wanted to tell you a few of mine!

First, let’s start with an old tradition that me, my dad, and my brother used to do together (may they Rest In Peace). Even though they have both passed onto the next life, I can still feel their presence, and that is why I continue to do this tradition to this day. Back when my brother and I were kids, my dad used to take us to the Hallmark store in Munster, Indiana. We would go every single Christmas season to pick out a new ornament. My brother and I would pick out whatever new, cool superhero ornament was there, while our dad would buy a new Santa Clause one (my poor mom’s Christmas decorations are flooded with those now Lol!).

It was a small tradition, but it was meaningful. It was fun for us to spend time together picking out ornaments, knowing it was going to be more fun going home and decorating the tree with the whole family there, playing Christmas music. Those were good times. To this day I go to the Hallmark store and buy two ornaments – one for me and one for my brother. I hope one day I can take my kids there and continue the tradition with them. I hope they get the same enjoyment out of it as I did.

This next tradition is one I came up with myself last year. So far it’s pretty enjoyable and I’m excited to share it! Starting last year I decided that every year on December 1st I would start a Christmas novel. My goal is to finish reading them by Christmas Day. The first book I started this tradition with is called When Christmas Comes by Andrew Klavan. It was fantastic and really hammered home one of the most important meanings of Christmas – family. Without giving too much away, I will just tell you the summary that’s on the book. “After a small-town war hero confesses to murder, a sleuthing English teacher will need a Christmas miracle to prove him innocent.” It’s a fantastic book and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a Christmas-time book to read!

This year I decided to go with a classic Christmas story. Some of you may have heard of it. It’s called A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically a Christmas-time ghost story about a mean and selfish old man named Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s such a great story, and the ending is wonderful. Again, I highly recommend!

Don’t mind my cat in the background. She was doing her nightly stretches.

So these are my two Christmas traditions. They may not sound like much, but I enjoy them! What are some of your Christmas traditions? I’d love to hear about them!

Have a great weekend. Stay warm & safe!

Peter
