Real Heroes & Fake Heroes

Hello and happy Veterans Day to all the men and women who served in the armed forces and sacrificed so much for us and our country. Your service will never be forgotten and we will always be forever grateful for everything you’ve done. You are all heroes!

The men and women of our armed forces are heroes, and although we have a specific day to honor them, we should be thanking them every single day for our freedoms. They are the real life superheroes.

Since we are talking about heroes today, I also wanted to discuss the fictional heroes from the comic book world, because I have been obsessing over DC Comics lately and I wanted to share my obsession with you.

I recently subscribed to the app DC Universe Infinite. It’s a digital trove of DC comics where you can go and read whatever comic you want. It’s awesome! If you didn’t know, I’m a huge Superman fan, so lately I have been reading a ton of his storylines, and they are fantastic.

The first one I read is called Superman: Birthright. Without spoiling the entire story, I will just give the summary given when you first open the comic. It’s a “revamped retelling of Superman’s origin” and “asks the question, how does an orphaned alien become a symbol of hope for his adopted world?”. It was so interesting and the story telling was great. The ending was so awesome too, so if you’re interested give it a read!

The second storyline I read is called All-Star Superman. Now, this summary shouldn’t be a spoiler, but in case it is…SPOILER WARNING! Here it is: “The series revolves around Superman, who is dying due to overexposure to the Sun, as he accomplishes many heroic feats (The Twelve Labors of Superman) and attempts to make peace with the world before his imminent death.” That’s the summary from wikipedia. It is such a great story. The animated movie is also on HBO Max, but the comic storyline has so much more to it. Again, I recommend!

Finally, the most recent storyline I have read is called Superman: Secret Identity. Here is the summary given: “In a world where Superman is a character of fiction, a boy named Clark Kent is teased for his name, but soon finds he has powers of his own.” This was such an interesting take on Superman, I’m so happy I read it. It was awesome and fresh and new. It was really, really great. So, if you ever wanted to subscribe to the DC Universe Infinite app, there are few great stories to get you started!

As I said earlier, I have been obsessing over DC Comics lately, and the subscription to the app was not my only purchase. I recently purchased Action Comics No. 1 and it finally came in the mail! It’s an authentic copy, unopened and has the certificate of authenticity inside! It is so cool to look at, but I am trying to find the perfect place in my little home office for it.

There it is. One of my most enjoyable purchases. Who knows, maybe some day it will be worth something. In the near future though, I doubt it. There are probably tons of these being sold.

Anyways, I hope you all have a great weekend. Stay safe!
