Exploring The Region

It’s been a good weekend. The weather could have been better, but it was good. Lately, we have had so many things going on every weekend, and it’s pretty tiring. We need to stop committing to so many things, but most of them are for people we love, so it’s hard to say no.

This weekend, however, we finally had a chance to stay home and not do anything. It was really nice! I forgot how relaxing it can be to just hang out with my wife around the house and watch TV. It was great.

Besides binge-watching on Netflix, we continued working on some things for our adoption process. We are one step closer to completing the home study! It’s all so exciting, but at the same time it can be scary. Who knows what’s going to happen within the next two years (that’s how long our contract is with the agency). I’ll be giving more updates as the process goes on but, for now, we just have to be patient and continue moving along.

Once our binging was done and we decided to stop working on our adoption paperwork for the day, I decided to take a drive to a neighboring town that I never really spent much time in: Lowell. It’s a pretty town, right by Cedar Lake (IN), and they have such a cool “downtown” area. I put downtown in quotations because it’s really just a street with lots of shops and restaurants, and when people say “downtown” you normally think of Chicago or another big city. However, downtown Lowell is a really cool and pretty place. I highly recommend!

According to https://www.southshorecva.com/the-region/lowell/ , “Lowell’s downtown is well-known for its antique and specialty shops housed in the original circa 1890 buildings.” How cool is that? I love historic places like this, especially in smaller towns.

One store I really enjoyed was By The Board Games & Entertainment. As soon as I walked in the staff was so nice and very helpful. Being a game store, it was filled with tons of board games, and miniature characters for role playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons (which is why I was there). Side note: My friends from college and I have been playing D&D for a while now, and it’s really fun. So if you live in the region and play, you should definitely check out By The Board Games & Entertainment in Lowell!

Anyways, the store was really cool, the employees were very nice, and the amount of games they have to choose from will make your head spin.

After spending some time there in the historic downtown Lowell, I came back home, where I sat my butt down and relaxed for the next few hours until we went out to dinner.

This may sound boring to some, but it’s an ideal Saturday for me. It was perfect. I hope all of you region, and non-region, rats had a great weekend as well!

Peter
