Weekly Review 80

This week wasn’t that different from the others. Each week does bring a few “new” things, though. For example, new little moments with Mr. O, new projects around the house, or “new”/rekindled love for a game I haven’t played in a while. Overall, it was a good week for us here in the region, and I hope yours was good too!

Now, whether you’re just joining us on The Region Life or you’ve been here a while, welcome to my Weekly Review, where I share my previous week with you.

My week started very early on Monday morning. Mr. O was calling for me at 1:30 AM, so I went downstairs to grab him a bottle of milk and went into his room. He was sitting up in his crib, pointing at the window. It was really windy overnight and I assume it scared him a little bit. I picked him up, along with whatever “stuffies” he wanted to bring with him, and brought him into our room to sleep. He loves sleeping in our bed, but he can’t stand when my alarm goes off, Lol.

The workday went by quickly and I was back to spending time with my boy. We went upstairs to play in his playroom while Lea made dinner. Mr. O was running all over the place. One minute he was in his fluffy blue chair, which has his name written on it, and the next he was jumping on his little trampoline. Then, he jumped off his trampoline and into his ball pit. He’s wild! As I was sitting across the room from him, he started launching the balls from his pit at me (and all over the room). He was laughing hysterically. It’s actually really funny, but it’s such a pain to pick up when we’re done. We’re trying to teach him to pick up his toys, but he doesn’t care to listen at right now. Anyway, he was throwing them at me, I was throwing them back at him. He thought it was hilarious that some would bounce off the top of his head, Lol.

When it was time to pick them up I asked him, “Can you help me pick up your toys, please?” to which he responded, “I can’t hear you my music is too louder!”. I knew he could hear me, but he also wasn’t fully lying. His music on his little piano keyboard was really loud. After I picked up all the balls and put them back into the pit, we FaceTimed my Yiayia (grandma) for a few minutes so she could see and talk to Mr. O. Once dinner was done we went back downstairs to eat. Then we played and listened to the Region Weather live stream to see the potential forecast for the week and the coming month of April. Mr. O enjoys listening to and watching the weather live streams, Lol. He’s an old man. He even had his question answered by Matt (the Region Weather meteorologist)! He asked, “What the wind doing?” Lol. Later in the evening, I relaxed and ended my day by playing my personal BG3 campaign.

On Tuesday morning I made myself over easy eggs with toast. It’s a simple breakfast but it’s one of my favorites. Soon after, Mr. O was up and ready to go. This kid was full of energy this morning! We got ourselves ready and drove to daycare. He’s at the age now where he questions everything. I love it, but I also don’t, because sometimes I don’t know the answer to his question and I feel like I’m letting him down. He doesn’t really care, though, he will just ask a different question.

When we arrived, I got him out of the car and set him down on the grass next to the curb. He reached for my hand and we walked up the driveway. I looked down at him with a smile, he then looked up at me and gave me the cutest, softest smile. I think I felt my heart grow in that moment. When we walked inside, two little boys rushed to Mr. O at the door. They were talking nonstop with excitement and Mr. O looked a little overwhelmed, but then he took his shoes off and ran away with them to watch Bluey. It was an adorable little moment.

When Lea brought Mr. O home in the afternoon, we watched, and danced along to, Danny Go!. It’s a great YouTube channel that keeps kids active. In our house it keeps me active as well because the only way Mr. O will get up and dance is if I’m doing it too, Lol. After I burned a few calories, I decided to gain them all back by making some sloppy joes (Manwich) for dinner. We watched the latest episode of American Idol as we ate dinner, then we played with Mr. O and his blocks.

We’ve been working on counting with Mr. O recently and he’s been learning fast. He started counting his blocks as he put one on top of the other: “1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10”. Lea and I sighed in frustration, but also because we didn’t want to laugh. Mr. O always skips a number and this time it was 7. I don’t know if he does it on purpose or not, but he obviously knows how to count. Later in the evening, we gave him a bath and put him down for the night. Then we had bowls of ice cream and I walked immediately after for about 30 minutes to make myself feel better, Lol.

When hump day finally arrived, I woke up and made myself eggs and toast again. This might be a new routine of mine. Sometimes I will still have cereal, but lately I’ve been enjoying my eggs and toast. When Mr. O woke up and came downstairs, I made him breakfast and put on Danny Go! again, while I did the dishes before work. Immediately after work, I had to change and we left the house in a hurry. We were going to tour Mr. O’s new preschool! It’s right by our house so I don’t know why we had to rush, but we did. He loved it. He walked in like he owned the place and started playing with all the toys. Afterwards, we went to Target. Mr. O ordered his usual cake pop and we did some shopping. We did not, however, buy him a new toy. We’re proud of ourselves. Then we went to Culver’s and picked up dinner. After Mr. O went to sleep, I managed to get in a good workout downstairs.

On Thursday morning I took Mr. O to daycare again. It was so beautiful outside, we didn’t even need jackets. Supposedly, we were going to have severe weather in the late afternoon and evening, but I wasn’t so sure that was going to happen. When 4:30 PM came, the severe weather storms rolled in. They weren’t, however, as bad as the fearmongers on Facebook were saying they were going to be (in our region at least). Also, just to clarify, Region Weather does not fearmonger, that’s not who I was referring to! That’s actually one of the reasons we enjoy his videos and take him seriously.

Soon after the storms began, Lea and Mr. O walked through the garage door. I put on the show Little Bear for Mr. O. It’s a relaxing and low stimulation show for him to watch and I’m glad he enjoys it. He relaxed with Lea on the couch while I made us cheese and spinach tortellini. After dinner, Mr. O and I played upstairs in his playroom with his piano keyboard and his trucks before I gave him a bath. Then, I did some light reading and wrote a blog about how fast time is moving.

Friday morning was peaceful. Mr. O slept in. While I was working, Lea decided to start a new home improvement project. She was going to paint our downstairs bathroom (right outside my office) and put up some wallpaper as well. Her and Mr. O were outside my door most of the day taking things off the walls and painting. This is Lea’s project that she wanted to do mostly by herself. The only thing I helped her with was taking the mirror off the wall and trying not to shatter it. Not that it mattered because we’re going to get a new one, but because it would have hurt and been a pain to pick up.

Fortunately, I was able to leave work an hour early. I packed up Mr. O and took him over to my grandmas. My mom was there as well, and she brought dinner that she made and soup for Mr. O because he loves soup, but only if my mom feeds it to him *sigh*.  After we ate, Mr. O started smelling all the candles in the house, Lol. He loves smelling candles. He thinks they smell so good. They do, but it’s funny watching him go around, pick them up, then take the biggest sniff in the world. When we came home it was time for Mr. O to go to sleep. Then, I walked for about 20 minutes on the treadmill and did the dishes, while Lea finished painting the bathroom. When I finished the dishes, I ended my night with some writing.

On Saturday morning I introduced Mr. O to the show Justice League Unlimited. He liked it for a few minutes then asked me to put on PJ Masks. It’s more kid friendly, anyway. Once I realized we were being couch potatoes, I had us go upstairs to play so we can start being active. An hour later I had him workout with me in the basement, while Lea officially finished “phase 1”, as she calls it, of the bathroom makeover. While Mr. O was napping, we watched a couple episodes on Smallville and ate lunch. Right before he woke up, a package arrived for him. It was from my cousin, and one of Mr. O’s favorite aunts. When he woke up he was thrilled! “Why she send me this?” he kept asking, not understanding that people can just send gifts for those they love, Lol.

He got new Superman pajamas, cool bath toys that light up (police car, firetruck, ambulance, helicopter, etc. All his favorites), a new bedtime book, Spiderman sunglasses, and a potty training Tonibox that is the poop emoji character. He loves them all.

Later in the afternoon, my mom came over to see Mr. O and brought us dinner. We hung out, ate, played, and had The Office on in the background. In the evening, my mom and I gave Mr. O a bath as he played with his new toys in the tub. Then, before bedtime, he played with those same toys on my bed while I folded and put away laundry.

As he was playing on my bed, he started to become congested again. He had to reassure me, “I’m okay, Dada.” He then continued playing on my bed, in his Spiderman pajamas, making the noises for each of his vehicles and using his little imagination as I laid there watching him. Then we had a brief tickle fight and I put him down for the night. I finished the day by playing Skyrim. I haven’t played this game in forever and I forgot how much I loved it. It’s so calming and kind of a cozy game (except when a dragon drops out of the sky and tries to kill you).

On Sunday morning I woke up too early. I made a bowl of cereal and played Skyrim again before we had to get ready for church. It was just Mr. O and I going this time, so I had to make sure he was fed and ready to go. I gave him breakfast while he sat on my bed playing this train simulator game on my iPad. When we got to church, he walked in like the celebrity he is. Head up, chest out, and all smiles. One of the old women had a little ziploc bag of cookies for him (again) and he made a palm tree in Sunday school (for Palm Sunday coming up). When we walked outside to go to our car, the wind blew the palm tree apart. You can’t win them all.

A Moment I’m Still Thinking About

I’m still thinking about Saturday night. Lying there peacefully in my bed, watching my son’s imagination run wild as he moved his little vehicles around the bed, making the exact noise each of them makes. Seeing his little face enjoying the smallest moment and being so happy. It’s a small moment, but most of the time, those are the best.

What’s one small moment from your week that stuck with you?
