An Odd Time to Be Alive

I can’t stop thinking about what an odd, yet interesting, time we’re living in right now.

This is just something that’s been in my head the last couple of weeks and I’m finally writing it down.

Time feels like it’s going by so fast and I don’t like it. It feels like there’s never a chance to catch up on anything or to even breathe. It just keeps flying by and you have to hope you can keep up.

Willie Nelson recently released a new single titled Dream Chaser. It’s fantastic. One part that sticks out to me (and partially influenced this post) is this, “But time just seemed to vanish… Right before my eyes.” It’s a simple verse, but it’s also powerful. It hits hard because it’s true. It’s relatable. As I’ve said before, I’m trying to slow life down a bit, although I don’t know if I can take on time itself. If it’s going to fly, it’s going to fly, but at least I’m going to try.

If you stop to think about the time we’re living in, and I mean truly sit back and think about everything that’s happened only within the last ten years, you’ll realize that so much history is being made, and it’s not the good kind. We’ve had a global pandemic, wars stopping, starting, and continuing with no end in sight, corruption being exposed at a rapid pace and no one is being held accountable for any of it. Maybe it’s just incompetent leadership at the Justice Department, or maybe they just don’t care. Who knows.

Either way, my points are this: time is going by too fast and we are living through truly historic times, but most of the time I can’t even sit back and think about how wild it is to be alive throughout all of this because I rarely get chances to slow down and let my brain work. I feel like I’m either physically or mentally on the move.

With all of this being said, I can’t help but think of this quote from Saint Paisios: “What I see around me would drive me insane, if I did not know that no matter what happens, God will have the last word.”
