Today I Noticed: Wrapping Up the Week

On Sunday I realized something about myself. It’s something I can’t believe took me this long to realize and even put into words. If you didn’t know, I write my Weekly Reivew posts every Sunday. I write about the happenings in my life from Monday through Sunday, diligently keeping track of moments throughout the week. My notes are mix of small, quiet moments, big and loud moments, cute scenes with Mr. O, and everyday life. I try to keep them as authentic as possible, because what I’m really doing is documenting my life week-by-week, and one day Mr. O will hopefully go all the way back to the first edition of the Weekly Reviews and see how life was when he was just a baby. Maybe he’ll even learn something. These posts are digital journals documenting my life as a father, parent, husband and friend. They are for Mr. O, but I hope my readers can relate to them.

Earlier today (it’s Sunday night as I write this, but I will publish this on Tuesday since my WR publishes on Monday) I noticed how good it feels to finish writing my Weekly Reviews. Every week, when I make my edits, add my tags, and click Schedule/Publish, I feel a small sense of accomplishment.

It feels like I wrapped up the week and tucked it away in a desk drawer, knowing it’s safe and one day will be in the hands of my son. If you know me personally, you know I don’t like attention. I don’t enjoy talking about myself, but with writing it feels different. Writing lets me put the treadmill my mind is on to level 1. It helps me slow down and reflect on the moments that mattered to me week-after-week.

Maybe that’s why I’ve been able to keep my Weekly Reviews going for so long, because they allow me to stop, take deep breaths, and examine my mind and my feelings.

Writing is a great outlet for me, and I hope it can be that way for others, too.
