Hello readers. Welcome to my weekly review, where I share my previous week with you!
It all started on Monday (per usual). The day was going well as I was working, listening to music and podcasts throughout the day. I thought it was just going to be a good day. I did not expect it to turn into a great day! A little after lunch time, maybe one or two o’clock, a co-worker of mine messages me and asks what I’ve “got going on tomorrow” (meaning Tuesday). I was confused. “I’m working….” I replied lol. Then he reminded me of something I can’t believe I forgot – I HAD TUESDAY OFF!
Oh there is no better feeling than forgetting you have the following day off and being reminded. Thank God he told me because I didn’t check the calendar. I forgot I took the day off as my floating holiday for working MLK Day. I was so pumped up the rest of the day lol. After work we played with Mr. O and had him try on his new rainboots. He stomped around the house in them and did not want them off under any circumstances. He couldn’t figure out how to run in them though, since they are a bit heavier than his normal shoes lol.
While all of that was happening we put Toy Story 2 on (again) and then put the little man down for bed. Lea and I finished the night watching The Sopranos. A great start to the week.
That great start to the week quickly went away Tuesday morning, as I woke up with a tummy ache around 4:30am. My stomach hasn’t hurt like that in a long, long time. Of course, the day I actually wake up early to work out my stomach starts acting up. So instead of pushing through, I jumped in the shower and then went to get Mr. O ready for the day since he was up already too. Before I could grab him from the crib, he wanted to play with Winston/Winnie the cat, also known as “Ninnie” by Mr. O.
Mr. O was sticking his hand through the bars of his crib and then quickly pulling it away when Winnie went to smack it (with his claws tucked away. He’s a good cat!). After they got tired of each other I got him dressed and we went downstairs to do some learning with Ms. Rachel. Lea had errands to run most of the day so it was just me and my boy. He had opened more Hot Wheels (early birthday gifts) so we played with those and watched Toy Story and Toy Story 2. He is so cute with those movies. Every time they are on he has to grab Buzz and Woody and play with them while the movie is on. It’s adorable!
Later that night Lea made biscuits and gravy for dinner (it was delicious), then I worked out downstairs and finished the first book of the Fourth Wing series (what the heck was that ending?!). It was really good.
On Wednesday we were hit with quite a few inches of snow. It wasn’t terrible, but it was so windy and it was all coming down so fast that it piled up quickly. To make matters worse, Mr. O had a fever, and it was higher than normal. So we spoke with his doctor who assured us he was going to be okay, and I went out into the snow storm to grab some Tylenol for my little man and then I stopped to fill up my car with gas because it was low. Thankfully no one else was at the gas station so it was a quick in-and-out lol. It was probably because no one else was dumb enough to be driving around that night.
On Thursday Mr. O was still sick, but his health and energy improved with incredible speed. He seemed to be getting better as the day went on. We started to think it might have been a 24-hour bug. We were hoping that was the case since we are heading to Florida soon. In the middle of the day he took a really long nap and that also seemed to help. He woke up with even more energy than before! He was dancing to all his favorite songs while playing with his toys. We are so thankful he recovered quickly.
Later that night I attempted to make us tacos. I was cooking the meat and heating up the refried beans and then…tragedy struck. The stupid beans wouldn’t come out of the can so I grabbed a spoon to scoop them out. As I was digging in there my thumb sliced the lid and blood was gushing everywhere. It hurt like hell and Lea had to finish making dinner because I obviously didn’t want my blood all over the food lol. I went through two thick paper towels and tried to clean it out a bit in under water, and then I bandaged my wound with a band aid. I don’t know why this keeps happening to me when I cook. Maybe it’s best if it just stop cooking all together. I’ll run that by Lea and let you all know how it goes.
After my bleeding was under control and the tacos were done, we watched This Is Us. We’re finally nearing the end. We would have been done with it by now if I didn’t get sidetracked with Gilmore Girls, but it was totally worth it lol. After Mr. O went to sleep and Lea went upstairs to read, I checked a movie off my Letterboxd list. That night I finally watched Casablanca. It was pretty good. I’ll have to watch it again when I’m not super tired. I was falling in and out of sleep but I saw enough of it to take notes and to know that I liked it.
I enjoy the black and white in the old movies. There’s just something about it, I don’t know how to describe it. I love the way they all spoke back then and I love the way they dressed so nice and how casual it was for everyone to dress like that. They had style. The music, of course, was enjoyable. Another thing I noticed was how different the acting was. It was different and better than most we see today. Again, I can’t explain why, that’s just how I felt watching. My last note says “Running a saloon would be cool.” I still believe that.
On Friday it was Valentines Day. I woke up bright and early and wrote a really loving and passionate post for my wife, Lea. She deserved it, she’s the best. Pretty early in my work day we were told we had an early release for the long weekend (Presidents Day) and I ended up going to Shoe Carnival to buy a pair of Loafers and some new sneakers. While I was out I also picked up Panda Express for Lea for Valentines Day because she was craving it. When I came home I worked out downstairs then shoveled our driveway because we had family coming to stay with us over the weekend from out of town.
On Saturday Lea made breakfast for everyone. She made eggs and sausage and I think our niece and nephew enjoyed it? I didn’t ask. After breakfast I played with Mr. O and his cousins for a while. My nephew was playing Fortnite on my PlayStation, while Mr. O and my niece were singing and dancing to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie playing on her iPad lol. Then Mr. O went down for a nap and all the ladies went to Target for a while. Which is fine because my nephew and I hung out and played while they were gone. We watched a bit of the Purdue vs Wisconsin basketball game and then played around with Mr. O’s Little Tikes basketball hoop for a while. It was fun. We were trying to see how many shots we could make in a row but we never made it past seven lol.
When the women finally returned from their “exhausting” Target and Starbucks run, my nephew and I went out for a couple hours. First, we hit up the new Taco Bell right around the corner from my house. I can’t tell you the last time I ate Taco Bell. I have told myself for years it was disgusting and I would never eat it again. Then my nephew said he was “craving it”, so we went there and I didn’t want to pick up food from another place so I sucked it up and ordered food too. To my surprise it was delicious. Way better than I remember. After we ate and chatted for a bit we went to GameStop. My nephew was looking for a Deadpool funko pop and we were also going to see if he wanted a new game for his PlayStation.
As we were walking up to GameStop we tried pulling the door open. At the exact moment we did that the employee turned the key and locked the door. He then continued to pull the metal blinds down over the windows and said “I’m going to lunch” lol. So we drove about ten minutes up the road to Best Buy to see if they had anything he would like. We ended up buying a couple gift cards for his VR headset and walking around. Then we went next door to 2nd & Charles because they have a ton of funko pops there. Sadly, they had no Deadpool. So after a very thorough search of that section of the store, we concluded that we weren’t overlooking it. It just wasn’t there. So we walked around the store and into the comic section. On the shelves were two Justice League figurines. They looked so cool. I don’t know why but I almost listened to a 10 year olds rationale to buy them. “If you want them just buy them” he said. “You know what? You’re right. Why not” I thought. So I carried them around with me for a bit and then thought to myself “What am I doing? I don’t really need these” lol. I put them back.
We quickly left that store before I changed my mind. On our way home we stopped at GameStop again. They did not have the funko pop either (depressing). We also called the comic store and they didn’t have it (UGH). We gave up and went home. He was a good sport about it though.
Later on we all ordered pizza from Dominos. I’ve never had their pizza before and I have to say I really enjoyed it. We played and put on the USA vs. Canada hockey game. I never watch hockey but something about that game made me so interested. I don’t know if it was because it was politically hyped up or because it was just a really good game. In the end, USA won. Honestly, I didn’t really care, but it’s nice to see your country come out on top.
On Sunday morning my niece had written down a bunch of things and cut the paper up into little notecards so we could play charades. It was fun! I was really good at it. My acting was top notch. She was able to guess everything pretty quickly. So, yeah. It was either because my acting was phenomenal or because she wrote all the words down and new all of them. In the afternoon they went back home. I put on the Daytona 500 (I don’t know what was going on with me this weekend. I watched sports I normally never watch lol) because I thought Mr. O would like seeing all the cars. He didn’t give a crap.
It didn’t help there was a rain delay either. Lea started to not feel well so she went to take a nap. Me and Mr. O played a bit then relaxed on the couch. I turned on this new documentary on Netflix called Our Universe (new to me at least). It was cool but then I had to turn it off because it was way too graphic with the animals eating each other. Later Sunday night we watched A Bugs Life. Mr. O gave it a ten-out-of-ten.
It was a great week! I hope you all had a great week as well.
Peter
