Hello and welcome to my weekly review, where I share my previous week with you!
It started early on Monday morning when I was so cozy and warm in my bed, under two big blankets. I was the most comfortable I had been all night. It took forever to finally get it just right and then….BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! It’s time to get up for work. UGH! I hate when this happens lol. It’s always the coziest right before you’re alarm goes off in the morning.
When I arrived to my office I was met with the pleasant surprise. It was an email from management stating we only had to be in the office one day this week because of the holiday (Thanksgiving). It’s always a great feeling when you receive an email like that. To make my Monday even better, I resisted a box of donuts that was sitting on the counter all day! I didn’t have one! I was so proud of myself. I’ve been eating a lot of garbage food lately, so when I get a little win like that I like to celebrate (in this case my celebration was feeling really good about myself).
That feeling lasted about 30 minutes because I had to start a conversation with our IT department and it was very frustrating. My Outlook app (for my emails) was not working. It kept freezing and stalling every few minutes. So the IT guy said it wasn’t installed correctly (?). I asked him how is that even possible since I’ve been using it this whole time. He ignored my question and continued trying to fix it. Over an hour later it was finished re-installing. He asked me how it was and I said “so far so good”. Then a few seconds later it started freezing and lagging again and I replied to our chat saying “Wait! It’s doing it again.” Again, he didn’t acknowledge it. He just replied there will be a survey about his performance and I should take it lol. Ugh, it was all so annoying.
On Tuesday we received a preview of our Christmas pictures! They turned out so well we are so excited to have them and to pick one for our Christmas cards. Wednesday night was a pretty chill night. We played with Mr. O and his new blocks he got as an early Christmas gift. We didn’t play with them how you would assume one plays with blocks, though. No, no, that would make too much sense! Instead, Mr. O brought his blocks one-by-one to me and I had to pile them on my lap as he continued to bring his 100-piece-set every few seconds lol. He would hand me the block and say “Da?” to which I replied “thank you!” as I took it from him. So imagine that on repeat for about twenty minutes. While we were doing that we were also binging one of my favorite shows Smallville. I’ve been re-watching for a while now so I can keep up with the actors re-watch podcast Talkville, where they watch and discuss each episodes and give a little behind the scenes details that are pretty cool. I’ve probably watched that show about 100 times now lol.
On Thursday morning we packed up the car and drove two-and-a-half hours down to my in-laws for Thanksgiving. Lea was so mad at me when we got there lol. Let me explain before people immediately take her side! I could have sworn the Bears game on Thanksgiving day was at 11:30am eastern time. I swear that’s what the app said! Well, after rushing everyone to get out of the house and on the road that morning, it wasn’t until we got to my in-laws when I realized it said 11:30am CENTRAL TIME. Meaning the game wasn’t on until 12:30pm eastern time and we arrived a whole hour before the game starts lol. On the bright side we got to spend extra time with family, right?
The Bears game was really good. They had another heartbreaking loss though, but Caleb Williams shined as usual. Later on it was finally time to eat. The rest of the family showed up and all the food was done cooking. My nieces and nephew looked at me with disgust as I sat across from them at the table. They are 7, 9, and 10 years old. “No way you’re going to eat all of that” one of them said. My plate was overflowing with food. I hadn’t really eaten all day. I was waiting for this dinner! “You’re about to see something really special” I replied to them. What they witnessed was truly incredible. I ate almost my entire overflowing plate of delicious food. I had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing (my favorite, beside sweet potatoes), sweet potatoe casserole, green bean casserole, carrots and a couple roles of bread. After digesting all of that for a few hours, I went and had some pumpkin pie. Do I regret eating so much? Yes, of course. Would I do it again next year? Absolutely.
On Friday I worked from “home”. Meaning from Lea’s old bedroom at my in-laws house. As I was upstairs I heard a funny little conversation between my nephew (who stayed the night also) and my mother-in-law (his grandmother). I didn’t hear the beginning of it, but I knew they were talking about breakfast. The part I heard was short but it went like this:
Grandma: “Peanut butter ball?!?!….For breakfast?…”
Nephew: “…Yeah?…”
He said that so confidently like there was nothing wrong with a sugary desert from the night before as his breakfast lol. Lea made peanut butter balls for Thanksgiving desert. She makes THE BEST peanut butter balls in the world. I am not biased, that’s just the truth. On Friday night Lea, her brother, his wife, their daughter, and our other niece all went to the movies to see Wicked. Almost all of them enjoyed it. I stayed at my in-laws with Mr. O, our 5 month old niece, our nephew, and the grandparents. I didn’t really have any interest in seeing Wicked and Mr. O is also a pain to put to sleep at their house, so I figured it’s best to help them out and take care of my son. With Lea being out late that meant I got to sleep with Mr. O in the guest room bed! It’s always a great time. Just a little side note – when we sleep at Lea’s parents we don’t all fit in the bed, and Mr. O refuses to sleep in the pack n’ play so Lea and I have to take turns on who sleeps with him lol.
Anyways, it was my turn. This kid has so much energy it’s insane. I was laying there telling him “it’s time for bed, buddy” and he was sitting up on his knees belly flopping on the bed for like five straight minutes. Up and down, up and down, up and down. Laughing every single time. Then, finally, he flopped down and didn’t get back up lol. Instead he stuck his little but up in the air like he does when he gets comfy and fell asleep. It was a peaceful rest of the night. On Saturday we went to visit Lea’s grandpa at his golf shop. It’s a cool little store. They do really great work! I’ll have to take some pics next time we go visit. Mr. O had a blast. They have a little putting green area and he was loving running back and forth throwing the plastic balls around. He also loved running around the store lol. He put on a show for the employees. He sang in his cute little babble and had everyone smiling and laughing. What can I say? He’s a star!
A few hours later, after nap time and lunch, we went over to my brother-in-laws to eat some cake for our nephews birthday. It wasn’t a full-on birthday party this year because of Thanksgiving and because he had two basketball games Saturday night, so eating a lot (again) would not be good (for any of us, but especially for him since he was the one having to run back and forth lol). Once we got to the game it was fun, but Mr. O and I were only there for a short period of time. Mr. O ended up throwing a huge fit (screaming and crying) because he wanted to go play on the court lol. He saw his cousin playing and his uncle and grandpa coaching and wanted to play with the ball so bad, but we obviously could not let him. So him and I went back to the house and watched Minions and played before everyone else came home. It was a relaxing evening.
On Sunday we finally drove home. The little guy slept the whole car ride while Lea had her audiobook playing while she was driving. I made the rookie mistake of leaving my headphones in my backpack, which I had put in the trunk before we left. I should have known better! Eventually we got home and put all our stuff away. We did the normal chores: dishes, laundry, trash. Then we hung out. I played some Sinatra Christmas songs on the record player and Mr. O danced lol. Later on I made dinner and we watched that DC kids movie League of Super Pets or something like that. It’s on Max and it’s pretty good! Mr. O approves.
That’s my week. I had a great Thanksgiving. All the food was delicious and the family time was great. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! And to those who don’t celebrate/aren’t in the US, I hope you had a great week as well!
Peter
