Hello! In my last weekly review I mentioned I had a DCU updates post on the way and that I was waiting for one more casting decision to be announced. Well, for those interested it’s our lucky day!
Lanterns
We will start with the exciting casting news for the Lanterns HBO series (this is the news I’ve been waiting on!). We will start with the casting for probably the most famous Green Lantern there is…Hal Jordan. Per Variety, Kyle Chandler is officially set for the lead role in the Green Lantern series “Lanterns” at HBO. If you’re thinking “Hmm that name sounds familiar” it’s probably because you’ve seen this guy everywhere. He’s starred in many things.
I know him mostly from the awesome television show Friday Night Lights. He was also in some other well known series, such as the Bloodline, which was on Netflix if I’m remembering correctly. Anyway, he’s playing Hal Jordan and I think it’s a great choice since DC Studios was looking for an older, mentor – like actor to take on the role and wear the ring. “The show is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios and is based on DC’s Green Lantern” comics. It was picked up for eight episodes at HBO in June. (variety).”
“Per the official logline, the series follows “new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland (variety).” I love this already. It’s going to be so cool. I can’t wait to see how it plays into the larger DCU storyline.
Speaking of “new recruit John Stewart”, who appears to be the main Green Lantern in the DCU as a whole….Lanterns Finds Its John Stewart with Aaron Pierre per the Hollywood Reporter. “Aaron Pierre, the star of Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, has nabbed the plum part of Green Lantern John Stewart in DC Studios’ and HBO’s much-ballyhooed series Lanterns. The casting caps one of the more scrutinized actor searches in some time. Not only is the show the first major TV endeavor from DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, but the role of Stewart carries much significance, as the fan-favorite comic book character was one of DC’s first Black superheroes. (Hollywood reporter).”

Aaron definitely has his work cut out for him but I think he will do great. I haven’t seen anything he’s in (that I know of) but I’m hopeful and I’m trusting the process of DC Studios. This show is going to be so cool and I cannot wait for it! So far in the DCU we have three Green Lanterns.

At least one of them, Guy Gardner, is going to be in Superman (which comes out July 2025!).
Bane and Deathstroke
Batman Villains Bane, Deathstroke Getting Movie Treatment at DC Studios (Exclusive) – Hollywood Reporter. “Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Bane, the super-steroid injecting antagonist who was previously seen in the 2012 Christopher Nolan movie The Dark Knight Rises, and Deathstroke, another popular arch nemesis in the comic book company’s fold, are being lassoed together for a movie. The James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios is developing a script from Matthew Orton…(Hollywood Reporter).”
I don’t have much to say on this. It sounds really cool if I’m being honest. I really didn’t expect a movie like this so soon into the DC Universe, but it likely ties into the larger story and it definitely ties into The Batman: The Brave and the Bold movie that will be made (the title may change in time). I’m looking forward to it all!
Dynamic Duo

“The 6th & Idaho movie scripted by Matthew Aldrich is being made by a new animation studio out of New Orleans name Swaybox and that studio’s husband – and – wife creators Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson. Mintz will direct this movie, which follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd aka the Robins (Deadline).”
Again, I didn’t expect a movie like this so soon. It obviously ties into the Batman movie that will eventually be announced. I’ve always like Robin. Well, Dick Grayson’s version of Robin. I haven’t really payed attention to the others so maybe I should start reading lol. This will be a cool movie, and remember that the DCU project will go from live-action to animation to video game, etc. and all the same actors will play their characters in every version. It’s really going to be something special!
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow & Teen Titans

Supergirl is set to start filming in 2025 and release in theaters in 2026. Milly Alcock is starring as one of the most popular female DC characters. I’m willing to be she will appear in Superman at some point. Just my guess!
As the tweet says, there will also be a Teen Titans movie. There really isn’t any information on that movie yet. I’m not sure if it’s even been confirmed by James Gunn yet, but we will see lol. Both of these movies are going to be so exciting!
The Flash

Shorter section here: The Flash may appear in an animated series. My guess is it will be a cameo and then lead into his own movie or series. Only time will tell.
Superman
Lastly, my favorite hero of all-time: Superman! This doesn’t really have anything to do with the movie. I just thought this was interesting how actors prepare for their roles – especially superhero roles! ‘Superman’ Star David Corenswet Bulked Up to 230 Pounds to Play Man of Steel: ‘I Didn’t Fit Into Any of My Pants’ – Variety.
LOL. Yeah, I can see that being true. The physical tole some of these actors go through is incredible. I can’t even imagine. Here is the article if you’re interested in reading more about it. Again, I don’t have much to say on this haha. It’s just cool.
That’s it for the DCU Updates. Like and subscribe!!!!
