Family Reunion 2024

On Saturday we had a family reunion for my dads side. It was really fun!

Our Saturday started unlike any other Saturday. I actually slept in! Finally, I felt so great waking up at 7am instead of 4 or 5. The extra hour or two really does make all the difference. Lucky for me, Baby O also slept in until 7. Well, 7:30ish actually. He gave me enough time to shower and eat some breakfast. I swear this kid has some sort of internal clock because as soon as I took my last bite of cereal he popped up in his bed and was activated for the day.

I went upstairs, entered his room, and was greeted with the cutest, big smile in the world. He immediately lifted his arms up for me to pick him up. Hold on, side bar. Has anyone else had a word underlined in yellow when typing in WordPress telling you the word you used is to complex? Then it suggests another way to phrase your sentence? It just did that for me when I typed “immediately”. It said it was “too complex” and I should “use simpler words”. I know I don’t have the largest vocabulary but “immediately” is not a complex word lol. Okay, back to my story:

So of course I picked him up and hugged him. He then puts his little head on my shoulder for a few seconds until he points to his changing table, which also has his bottle of milk on it. I laid him down, gave him his milk, and got him dressed for the day. We went downstairs and hung out for a bit, then before we knew it, it was time to leave for the reunion! The drive wasn’t bad. It was pretty beautiful actually. We drove though a ton of farmland in Indiana and then into Illinois. We were only going about an hour away. My dad’s Uncle has a lake house we use to host our reunions. It’s really pretty. Baby O took a little nap in the car thankfully.

This year the weather was the complete opposite of last years reunion. Last year it was chillier and raining all day. Which forced us all to be inside. This year, it was really sunny but also 90 degrees. It was SO HOT. Baby O, with his fair skin, immediately turned all red lol, but that boy loves being outdoors. He loved standing on the patio staring at the water. Occasionally watching the pontoon boats and jet skiers fly by. We also brought his bubble gun so every now – and – then he would turn around and we would spray bubbles at him lol. He had a blast.

Of course, there was a ton of food. I ate way too much and I don’t really regret it yet. Maybe in a few days I will when I realize I ate too much and didn’t exercise at all. But for now, I’m going to enjoy my memories of filling my plate and stuffing my face.

It goes without saying (but I’m going to say it anyways) that it was really great catching up with our family. It’s always fun chatting with your cousins and hearing what’s going on in their lives. Even if we were all dripping sweat because of the heat.

Before we knew it it was time to leave. Baby O was tired, cranky, and was too hot for us to stay any longer. I could honestly say the same about myself. I was ready to go home too. I’m glad we did because it was perfect timing. We got home, gave him a bath, put him to bed, and relaxed. Then, on Sunday, we all slept in until 7/7:30ish again! If you take anything away from this post I hope it’s that this weekend was a really good weekend for sleeping. I feel refreshed, energized, and ready to get the week started.

I hope you all had a great weekend as well.

Peter
