Dinner, Date Night, Gossip

The last four days have been really fun and I wanted to tell you all about it.

Welcome back, dear readers! I have another “life update” for you all. It starts on Thursday of last week at a familiar place with a similarly familiar face. A year or two ago (if any of you remember) I mentioned my godfather and I have been meeting up in downtown Chicago from time to time after work at a really cool place called Exchequer Restaurant & Pub.

Thursday

On Thursday we met up again and had a really good time. The pizza was so delicious, the conversation was fun (as usual) and it was really great to get together with him and catch up. Growing up we always lived kind of far from each other, so we never really saw each other too much. But now that we both work in Chicago occasionally it’s pretty easy to pick a day and grab dinner. Time flew by and it was time go leave. We both had trains to catch in opposite directions, so we had to hurry and say goodbye.

My walk to the train was beautiful. The sun was setting, music was playing across the street from the station at Millennium Park, and people were dancing on the sidewalks. Many people (more than I had thought) were giggling, laughing, and just having a blast. It was really great to see. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay since I had a train to catch.

Friday

On Friday we got off of work early. It was a real blessing given that I was so tired of it last week and that Friday night was a date night Lea and I had planned a week ago! Getting off early meant the night could get started earlier. Around 4pm my mom came to spend the rest of the night with Baby O so Lea and I could go to dinner. We went to Texas Roadhouse. Informal, delicious food, and we had a gift card that paid for almost all of our meal lol. It was fun. Being with someone for 10+ years and still having things to talk about is amazing. We were having good conversations about our life together and where we see each other in the years to come, how good the food was, and of course our little guy, Baby O. It was really great that we still make each other laugh too.

After dinner went to the movies to see the new film Twisters. It was really good! It was fun, exciting, and equally terrifying. Lea and I both hate tornadoes. Don’t like them and very scared of them. You’re probably asking “why did you go see a movie that’s all about tornadoes then?” and that’s a valid question. In fact, right when the movie started (with a killer opening sequence, by the way) I turned to Lea and said “why are we here? We hate tornadoes” lol. Nevertheless, we really liked the movie. Honestly, I would probably see it again if someone asked me to go with them.

After the movie it was finally time to go home. The baby was already asleep so it was perfect to lay down and fall asleep with no worries. On another note (to close this section out), I wanted to mention something that happened recently. It relates to the movie I promise! I don’t know if I told you guys but we had some really bad storms a few weeks back and also had tornado warnings and watches all over the region and Chicago-land area. It was really scary. We had to wake Baby O and run downstairs, and I’m glad we did because the following day someone in our neighborhood shared that an EF-1 tornado flew right over the front of our subdivision! (That’s right, I know my tornado lingo now. I saw Twisters. I’m an expert.) How scary and also HOW CLOSE! Thankfully everyone in our neighborhood was safe and was not hurt. Lots of trees were knocked down though and fences broken. At our house, the only casualty was our zucchini plant (which was dead before the storm but we can just continue to stick to my story).

Now that I wrote that all out I think I did tell you this already and I think I used the same joke too haha! Oh well, I hope it was funny the second time around as well.

Saturday

On Saturday I woke up at 5am to work out in our basement before everyone else was awake. It was my first time in a month that I was finally able to get some exercise in and it felt so good. I did my exercise for about 20-30 minutes, then Baby O woke up so I went and got him dressed and fed. Once he was content we sat on the couch and I put on the HBO sports series Hard Knocks. This season was about the New York Giants. In a week or two the Bears will have their own season on Hard Knocks. You should watch!

Watching this show didn’t last long. Baby O was next to me huffing and puffing, aka sighing loudly because he didn’t want to watch this. I eventually got the hint and turned on Ms. Rachel for him. His face lit up as we started dancing along to her singing The Wheels on the Bus lol. Later in the day, around 1pm or so, we headed to my grandmas because my aunt and cousin were in town from Florida. My cousin turns 20 in a couple of days so we celebrated his birthday together. We ordered in from this Italian place called Little Italy. It’s always so delicious. If you couldn’t tell, I’m not a picky eater. That’s why I always have good things to say about wherever we eat lol. I got the parmesan chicken. Of course, I loved every bite. An hour or two later we had to leave and go back home. Baby O was getting tired and he needed his second nap. When he woke up one of my friends was in the area so he came over for a bit and hung out. He originally was just going to swing by and pick up a Bulls hat I had for him, but since we haven’t seen him in a while he stayed for about a half hour. It’s always a good time!

Sunday

Sunday was one of our laziest days as a family yet. It was gloomy and rainy for most of the day, so we just sat around, played, and occasionally watched something on TV. We played with our little guy almost all day. I love hearing his little footsteps walking and running around our house. It always reminds me of years ago when Lea and I would talk about our future children and hope for days like Sunday. When the little footsteps are heard coming around the corner and then we are greeted by a big beautiful smile. It really melts our hearts.

One new thing I did today was watch Gossip Girl with L. She’s seen it a few times through and re-started it, but I have never seen it. I have to say, it drew me in this time lol so I watched a ton with her today. L was kind of getting annoyed with me because I started talking like the characters on the show lol. I know she’s probably going to read this so I wanted to keep it up (hence, “L”).

It was a fun weekend and I am hoping for a good week to follow!
