DC Compact Comics – a genius idea

Okay, this has to be one of the cooler things DC has done within the last decade.

Starting this month (June 2024), DC Comics has announced the sales of their Compact Comics. You may be asking “What are compact comics?”. Let me tell you – they are one of the coolest ideas DC has had. Per DC.com , “Global publisher DC has announced a new line in their graphic novel slate: DC Compact Comics. Featuring a 5.5″ x 8.5″ standard book trim for trade paperback novels, the new format pulls bestselling, new-reader-friendly titles from DC’s evergreen library as the first books offered in this new lineup of compact editions of adult graphic novels. Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons andAll-Star Superman by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, among others, will go on sale beginning in June 2024, retailing at $9.99 US, to launch DC’s new program.”

This is so cool. It’s like al little book wherever you go, except it’s a comic book. I ordered my first one recently and I just got it!

I’m a Superman guy through-and-through, but I do love me some Batman from time to time. Especially this story. The Court of Owls is a secret society in Gotham. They are creepy, manipulative, realistic (if you look around our world today it’s reasonable to conclude there are many secret societies out there), and all-around terrifying. I read part of this story a long time ago, but never go to finish it. I remember I loved it, so I had to order it. I can’t wait to start it again and actually find out how it ends this time lol

They also have a few more selling right now, one of them being All Star Superman. I might get it eventually, but I already have the regular size version of it. This won’t be for a while, but I want to get the Watchmen compact comic. I’ve never read it before but from the description it sounds right up my alley.

This is a great idea by DC, and they NEED to have these little comic books on book shelves all over the country and world. Just like you see those $10 novels at random stores and airports – that’s where DC needs to put these front and center. Gosh I just love this idea so much.
