Father’s Day is a bittersweet holiday for me. It’s bitter because my dad isn’t here to see everything that’s going on in my life. I know he would be proud, and I know he’d be obsessed with Baby O, his grandson. However, the day is sweet because I am now a father too (if you didn’t know. It’s not like I talk about it all the time).
This year Father’s Day was so great. It started last Friday. I worked from home, packed last minute throughout the day, and as soon as the clock struck 5pm, we hit the road. We drove a few hours south to my in-laws. It was a beautiful drive; the sun was setting, the baby was sleeping, and I didn’t have to drive, so I could marvel at the sky as it turned pink, at the farmland with its bales of hay surrounded by cows and horses, and at the fresh cut grass consuming all the land as far as I could see. Indiana is truly a beautiful state to drive through. If you just fly over you are missing so much.
Once we arrived we basically went straight to bed. So Friday wasn’t that eventful lol. Saturday, however, was very fun. Baby O had his first pool experience at the community pool near by. We went with his grandparents and his cousins. This kid LOVES the water. It took him a few minutes to get used to how cold it was, but once he did he was splashing around and screaming/laughing. He loves playing with his cousins so much. It was really fun and very sweet to see my boy enjoying himself like that.
After hours in the sun and water, we finally called it a day. We went back to my in-laws, Baby O napped, and we all showered and got ready for dinner. We went to Applebee’s. Dare I say Applebee’s maybe underrated? It was really good. My boy loved the food, obviously, and I enjoyed my bacon burger very much! It was a great spending the day with everyone.
On Sunday it was time to head home. But first, we had Father’s Day breakfast plans. We went to Bob Evans with our little family, my father-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew. It was really fun, and surprisingly delicious! I ordered eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and French toast. I of course ate all of it. My son, being just like me, also ate all of his food. He ate about four or five [baby] pancakes, two bananas and some sausage links lol. He’s a little monster.
After we ate, we were informed someone paid for our meal. We don’t know who, but I have my suspicions. Whoever you are, thank you! We appreciate it.
Once we left we went to the hospital to see my other sister-in-law. Nothing’s wrong with her, she just had a baby! We wanted to see our new niece before we left and we’re so glad we did. Baby O loved her right away and kept trying to poke her lol. She’s so sweet and we can’t wait to spend more time with her, and watch how close her and Baby O become.
Finally, we started heading home. The two-and-a-half drive started slow, but ended up flying by once I started the second Zach Bryan playlist. I drove this time, so there was no relaxing for me! Eventually, we got home, sat down, and played with our boy the rest of the night.
It was a great weekend. I’m so blessed to be a father. I love my son and my family very much. I hope all the dads out there had a great weekend.
