News broke tonight that James Gunn has cast his Supergirl.
Last week we found out the role was going to one -of – two actresses. Either Milly Alcock or Meg Donnelly. In my opinion either of them would be great in the role. Meg actually voiced Kara/Supergirl in the animated movies, which makes her a good fit because she understands the character well. Both are great actresses, and both have the typical Supergirl look. Milly was in House of Dragon recently. The Game of Throne spinoff/prequel and is fantastic in it.
Tonight we learned that Milly was cast as Supergirl and will be playing the iconic character in the DCU alongside David Corenswet’s Superman. According to The Wrap, “The actress will lead her own DC Studios movie called “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” If you remember, I wrote about this in my DC Comic Storylines post (a long time ago – can’t find the post to tag it lol). It is one of the best comics I’ve read, and I am not exaggerating.
From the art, all the way to the writing and story as a whole, it is incredible. Please give it a read if you’re interested! Per James Gunn in The Wrap, “This is a very different type of Supergirl,” Gunn said. “In our [film], we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from, you know, the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”
James Gunn has also stated on Twitter or Threads (can’t remember which platform) that his Supergirl will have an edge to her. Don’t quote me on that but it’s the gist of it. I believe Milly can bring that, as well as so much more to this role. She’s going to be fantastic and, as I’ve said many times before, I can’t wait for the DCU to start!
