A few days ago, the Chicago Bulls held a ceremony before the game called “Ring of Honor”. They were celebrating the team from the 90’s and the success and championships they brought to the city. It was supposed to be a great moment for fans, current players, and the players of the past. However, things quickly went sour and I mean it when I say that I am embarrassed about what happened.
This Bulls rant has nothing to do with the team. They’ve actually been playing really well. Zach LaVine is back from his injury and is looking really sharp. I hope they don’t trade him. Coby White has been on fire as well. As far as the current team is concerned, I have no issues. What I do have an issue with, however, are the classless, trashy, and mean fans that were at the game, specifically during the Ring of Honor ceremony.
If you follow any sports pages on social media you probably saw what happened. As they went through the former players and coaches, the crowd was filled with cheers and tons of joy. However, when they got to the former general manager, Jerry Krause, the entire arena erupted in boos. Why is this a problem? You are probably wondering. It’s a problem because Jerry Krause has been, mmm, he’s been gone. He passed away in 2017 (rest in peace. Lord have mercy on him). Not only were they booing a man that has passed on to a better place, they booed his poor wife, who was accepting the honor in his place. The poor woman was shaking and brought to tears. It was heartbreaking to see. Who does that? I understand people having their issues with him. He broke up Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and the rest of the group, but he also brought them together if I’m not mistaken. He helped bring Chicago those six championships. He did a lot for the organization. Sure, fans have always had issues with him, and they let him know while he was alive. They booed him even in the 90’s. But that was HIM. It was to HIS face. When you’re in the sports entertainment industry, getting booed is in the job description.
But to boo the man’s wife. A widow, an old woman. It’s gross, nasty, and those fans should be ashamed of themselves. They are not true Bulls fans. They don’t represent the rest of us. But now we have all of sports media lumping all of us together and telling us how bad of a fan base we are. I can assure everyone reading this that the REAL fans would never do that. I am also 99% sure that the fans who booed this poor woman, because they didn’t like her husband, weren’t even alive for the Jordan era of the Bulls. I was just a baby, and I am sure most of the people there only dislike Jerry Krause because MJ didn’t like him.
It’s sad and pathetic. Think for yourselves people, and stop making the rest of us look like jerks.
End rant. Thank you for reading. I’ve been holding on to that for a few days because it made me so upset. Seeing that woman’s picture everywhere of her crying has been so sad. I hope she knows the majority of Bulls fans appreciate what her husband did for the organization, and we agree he should be honored for that.
