DC Comics Storylines Part 6

Hello and welcome back to my DC Comics storyline series! Here you’ll find my opinions on three recent books I’ve read from DC Comics and, hopefully, some suggestions for yourself if you become interested. I love reading these comics. They are so much fun and it’s nice to let my mind wander into a different world for a little bit. Let’s get started!

The Authority – Books 1 & 2

These characters and their stories were new to me, and to be honest I only picked up these books to read because James Gunn has said they will be a part of his new DC Universe movies. However, I am so happy I read these. They were so entertaining and I really enjoyed the characters. They are like the anti – justice league lol. Each character has similar powers and personalities as members of the Justice League, but there is one difference: The Authority are not afraid to kill and destroy if needed. They will completely demolish cities and tear their enemies apart. It will be interesting to see these characters in live – action movies soon! Another reason I enjoyed these books was the traveling in time and space. That is one topic I really enjoy and to read about it is always interesting to me. So, if you’re interested, go to your local comic shop and pick these books up!

Superman and The Authority

Now, I know what you might be thinking: “Does this tie into the two books you mentioned above?” Well, the answer is no lol. But, this book is really cool, and it’s a different take on Superman AND The Authority. Here is a summary from dc.com: “Sometimes even Superman finds a task almost impossible. Sometimes even the Last Son of Krypton needs to enlist help. Some tasks require methods and heroes that don’t scream “Justice League.” So Clark Kent, the Metropolis Marvel, seeks out Manchester Black, the most dastardly of rogues, to form an all-new Authority tasked with taking care of some business on the sly. Not only will Black know the right candidates for the team, but if Superman can make him behave himself and act in service of the greater good, then he’ll prove literally anyone can be a hero! They’ll have to move quickly, however, as the Ultra-Humanite forms his own team to take out the Man of Steel.”

So, as you can see, the big – blue boy scout (Superman) needs help. He is getting older and his powers are getting weaker, but he is also more experienced and realizes he can’t do this on his own. So, he teams up with people he normally wouldn’t. If you want to see what happens, be sure to pick up a copy of this story! I enjoyed this a lot. I really think this story will tie into how The Authority is brought into the DCU through James Gunn’s vision. However, his new Superman is going to be younger, so we will see lol.

DC: The New Frontier

The book was really something. To be honest, it was a little confusing to me at first, and I had to start it from the beginning again. Maybe it’s just because I’ve been distracted lately I don’t know lol, but once I re-started it, it made so much more sense! It’s such a great story, and it’s very different than normal comic books. It was very political, which was okay. Like I said, it was something new.

Per DC.com, “Darwyn Cooke’s acclaimed epic is back in a new title collecting the 6-issue miniseries plus JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER SPECIAL #1! When Cold War paranoia outlawed the heroes of the Golden Age, stalwarts such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman continued to fight for truth and justice. But as the world hurtled toward an uncertain future, a new breed of hero would define the American Way!”

That doesn’t even tell you the half of it. If you’re interested, I encourage you to give this book a shot. It’s very long, but worth it, and at times can be a very easy read. If you’ve been keeping up with this series, you know I’m a pretty easy – going critic lol. I don’t think there’s ever been one I flat out despised. Time will tell though lol! I plan to read many more comics to keep this thing going.

I hope you enjoyed this issue of DC Comics Storylines. Please share and subscribe if you did!
