Hello everyone! Yesterday was a busy day for our little family here in the region. As the title states, it was baby Oliver’s very first Orthodox Easter celebration yesterday, and he was wiped out afterwards!
We started our day by trying to get him dressed. It was a lot harder than it sounds lol! He was being very difficult, but in the end we were able to dress him in this cute little outfit
He really is like a little old man. Once we got to his Yiayia’s house (my mom’s), he was all smiles! He had all his aunts and great aunts, and grandma’s surrounding him trying to take pictures quickly before his smile went away lol. Don’t let him fool you though, he loved the attention!
We had a pretty good spread for dinner. Let’s see there was lamb, sweet potatoes, Mac & Cheese, ham, pastichio (which is basically a Greek lasagna), and dolmathes (which is another Greek food that is a certain leaf stuffed with meat and rice. It’s really good!)

Ah, and who could forget the red eggs. I’m not sure if this is just a Greek tradition, or an Orthodox one in general, but every Easter we take hardboiled eggs, paint them red and play a little “game” (I guess you could call it that). One person says “Christ is risen” while the other says “Truly He is risen!” and then you hit your eggs together and whoever’s egg cracks loses lol. It’s a fun game and entertaining when you turn it into a little tournament.
After we left my mom’s, some of us went over to our extended family’s gathering. Oliver got to meet so many more relatives and he was awake almost the entire time! He was also a good boy and didn’t fuss too much. Overall it was a great day. Also very long, especially for the baby. He came home and ate, and then had one of the best nights sleep he’s had in the month and a half he’s been here.
Lastly, I wanted to mention yesterday was also Winston the cats first birthday! I’ll have to do another Day – in – the – life post soon, but nothing much has really changed for him. He’s just gotten bigger and loves his baby brother!
I hope you all have a great day,
Peter
