Warner Bro/Discovery & DC News

Hello! Lot’s to talk about today. Yesterday was kind of a big day for DC Comics fans, and I’ll tell you why below. Nothing crazy happened in the comic – world, but a few things were announced that us fans are excited about! Oh, and also some personal stuff because that’s what this site is all about!

First, let’s talk about Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD). If you haven’t heard, or if you didn’t have time to watch the live – streamed press release yesterday, WBD announced they are switching things up on the HBO Max streaming service. To start the press release, they announced HBO Max will now be known as Max, and I think it launches May 23rd

Whatever you think of the new name, hang on just a minute. I know it sounds silly, but they have good reasons for the change. Now, forgive me for not writing down the speakers names. I’m just going to cite WBD as a whole for everything I tell you lol. So, WBD stated (in regards to dropping “HBO” from the service name), “We all love HBO… however it is not exactly where parents would most eagerly drop off their kids. WBD has the best – known kids brands in the industry…We see this as a new engagement opportunity.” I’m paraphrasing of course, but you understand what they are trying to say. They want the new service to be for everyone. With HBO in the name it sounds like its for adults only.

Just because they are dropping HBO from the name doesn’t mean it is going to go away forever. I am pretty sure WBD mentioned having their own HBO section on the service, where they will create and release HBO original documentaries. By the looks of the clips they showed, it seems like these original docs will be about actresses/actors who work with WBD. From the clips they showed, it seems like they get really personal, so maybe these will be good? We shall see!

Throughout the presentation, WBD was strongly stating that the new service with heavily focus on quality over quantity, which is fantastic to hear. The organization also touted their past achievements: “#1 Oscar winning movies, #1 Emmy wins, #1 highest average series rating” the digital banner behind the speaker read. The company also listed their areas of improvement, which include: Increased engagement, Enhanced retention, strengthening performance, and optimizing monetization.

You know, it’s good to see them taking this so seriously. Why wouldn’t they? I don’t know. When it came to all the DC movies and characters in the past it all seemed so hopeless, but we, at least I, have forgotten that this company is about to hit their 100 hundred – year mark soon, so they obviously know what they are doing. I’m just glad to see they know when to fix things and make changes.

WBD also assured viewers and subscribers that when they transition to Max, everything dealing with our accounts and recently watched will seamlessly transition. One more thing, before I discuss DC related content that was talked about. Warner Bros is creating a reboot of the Harry Potter movies. I don’t think they should, but I will probably watch it. They said they are creating a season for every book, so expect them to follow the material closely and have a more accurate series! Sounds cool!

Okay, now for my favorite part of this presser, the DC content. While this was going on, DCU head James Gunn was also releasing the cast for the upcoming Creature Commandos show. This will be animated, but also translates to film, as Gunn has stated multiple times. So the voice actors in the new DC animated shows and movies will also be play the characters in live action.

So as you can see above, Frank Grillo is set to play Rick Flagg Sr. Which makes me think the DCU may be set in the past…we will see! Interesting though. I wouldn’t mind to be honest. Anyways, WBD said they are “energized about Gunn’s ambitious plans”, so I expect great things to come! They want a “unified Dc that travels across TV and movies”, which is exactly what us fans want.

They also showed clips of Colin Farrell starring in Matt Reeve’s The Penguin – which is a series coming to HBO Max – excuse me, Max – sometime this year. The first look was awesome! They also gave another short exclusive on The Flash movie, which is coming out in a few months! The future for DC comics looks bright!

Okay, I know this was a long post so I will wrap it up! However, I can’t have my readers go through all of that and not get any personal content. So, last night it was beautiful outside, and we fired up the grill! We had pork chops and made a pasta side. I’m not great at “food blogging” or whatever you want to call it, so I forgot to take pictures of it lol! Maybe next time.

They were so good! Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling too great, so I didn’t eat too much, but hey at least I will have left overs for lunch today lol

Thank you so much for reading!
