Last night was wild across the Midwest and Southern states. Crazy weather plowed its way through multiple states, leaving a path of destruction in some places. Pray for those people and areas affected by the tornado’s!
Thankfully, in the region, we didn’t have it as bad as some places in the south, like Arkansas for example. Earlier in the day I had prepared a few things in case we needed to take shelter. I packed Baby O’s diaper bag (with extra diapers, food and clothes), a flash light, pocket knife, snacks, drinks, pillows and blankets, etc. so we were good to go in case of an emergency.
We did jump the gun a little bit though lol! Lea and I took the baby and the cats down into the basement during the first wave of storms. Man, it was a pain to get the cats. They’re so hard to catch! I had to push one of them out from under our bed with a broom lol. Eventually, we were all downstairs. Did we go too early? Yes, absolutely. We didn’t go back upstairs until 10pm. But it’s better to be safe than sorry, and it takes forever to find and catch the cats.
I’m not going to lie I was a little worried at some points throughout the night. However, watching and listening to Region Weather’s live streams on Facebook really calmed my nerves. A man named Matt, who I believe is a meteorologist (?), runs the page and does local forecasts and gives his opinions on the weather, especially when there are bad storms like last night. It was my first time watching and it was great! He explained everything so plainly that all of us who were watching could understand.
Surprisingly, Baby Oliver was the calmest one in the basement lol! He ate, went to the bathroom, and napped most of the night. Not that Lea and I weren’t calm, but it was a little stressful dealing with the cats freaking out, the power almost going out, and the terrible weather outside.
Thankfully, as I said, we didn’t have it as bad as some places throughout the Midwest and south. We were blessed enough to be able to come back upstairs in our home and go to bed. Thank God! It was a scary night, but it’s over now and we can move on. If you want to read more about the storms, here is our local newspaper’s article: https://www.nwitimes.com/news/state-and-regional/illinois/tornadoes-kill-at-least-10-across-us-midwest-and-south/article_29889af9-4b4c-5be3-b6e8-7c6c2ee27dde.html
