Today I thought I’d share my goals for this site. It’s been a strange journey on here for me, and I haven’t really ever thought of any goals. I just knew I enjoyed writing and thought it would be a great idea (and kind of cool) to get to know the people around me. When I first started this was going to be strictly an interview blog.
As you are aware, it was going to be interviews with my fellow region rats. It started off hot and I thought it was a great idea (I still do), but I learned that in order to keep the content flowing, I couldn’t solely rely on everyone else. I had to do things on my own. From there it turned into what you see today. A personal blog with the occasional interview. I have finally been able to write freely about my own interests, life events, etc. and I hope my readers have found it all interesting.
However, as I said above, I never really had any goals for this blog. I just wanted to write. So recently I decided to sit down and think “what do I really want from all of this?” And then, my brain started working. Keep in mind these aren’t “my goals for 2023”. No. These are my general goals and I hope, eventually, I will reach them. I don’t want to rush myself or put too much pressure on myself because I wouldn’t enjoy it as much. So, here they are:
Following
Of course I want a following (who doesn’t?) I’m a blogger! However, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a big following. I would gladly take 50-100 people who really enjoy my content and actually read it, over thousands who just subscribe and never open an email when I make a new post. It’s never been about becoming a big, popular blogger. I just want people to enjoy what I write (or record) and to have fun on my website! I love it and enjoy it all, so I hope my readers do too J.
Monetizing
I’ve thought a lot about this recently, but I don’t think I’ve ever actually considered it. Like I said about having a big following above, it’s never been about the money either. I have a job, I have an income, so for now it’s not important to me. However, in the future I would like to have some kind of income from this blog. How am I going to do that? I have no idea. I’ll figure that out when the time comes! But for now, it is written down on my list of goals.
Structure
I’ve been reading more and more about how bloggers need structure. We need to make our content and our websites easier to read and navigate. If I’m going to take this seriously then I’m going to need some serious structure. To start, I need to pick two or three days out of the week and designate those as my post days. I know every now and then I can post on an off-day if I have something interesting to write about, but from what I’ve read it seems like this is something I should start doing. It will let my readers know when they can expect new content and it will help me get into a routine, which will make it easier for me to brainstorm new things to write about!
Brainstorming
This is one thing I struggle with and I hope to get better at it in time. When I hit a writer’s block it is so hard for me to get out of it. I have so much trouble brainstorming new ideas to write about and then it becomes frustrating and I go too long without a post. Or, if I make one, it’s not as good as it should be for all of you. You deserve the best! So, one of my goals is to get better at brainstorming. Once I figure that out, I hopefully won’t have too many issues when it comes to producing new content.
Be Myself
More than anything I want to continue being myself. That is one thing no one else can do – be me. I can and will change some things about how I operate on here, but overall, I will still be the same person. My writing won’t change, my tone won’t change, and I promise to always be me.
As I said in my introduction, I started this blog to get to know the people around me. I really enjoyed that aspect of this site and I think my readers did as well (even if you’re not from the region/Indiana). I plan to get back to that eventually, but with the baby and all we will have to wait and see how that works out! Maybe I will start with people I know. Who knows! I’m thinking out loud now so I know it’s time to wrap it up lol!
To summarize, I want to attract more followers, eventually monetize my site (although it’s not at the top of my list), create some kind of structure so my posts aren’t so chaotic, learn how to brainstorm better, and most importantly, I want to continue being myself. Those are my [main] goals for this website and I hope to reach them!
Thanks for reading, I really appreciate all of you.
