Today the worst kept secret in Hollywood was finally made official. James Gunn announced he is both writing (which we knew) AND directing the new Superman movie, which is titled Superman: Legacy and it set to release on July 11th, 2025.

I don’t have to tell my readers how excited I am for this movie. James Gunn has a way of writing/directing where he makes you laugh, but also tugs on the heartstrings. At least from what I’ve seen from the other DC – related content (and the Marvel movies) he has made.
As you can see from his tweet above, the release date, coincidentally, is the same day as his late father’s birthday. From this, and the other tweets in this thread, one can conclude that this Superman movie will be very different (in a good way).

I think this movie will focus more on Superman/Clark Kent’s relationship with his parents. Specifically, with his fathers Jor-El and Johnathan Kent. This is something that has been needed in Superman films, in my opinion. I don’t think they really dug into the details on the life of his birth-parents and his adoptive parents in the other adaptations. Having just adopted ourselves, the character of Superman hits a little different now – in a special way.

This movie is going to be really special. Especially if it’s a tribute to Gunn’s father, fatherhood and/or parenthood (which I think will play a major role in the movie). Superman’s not all about action. He’s about kindness and family. He’s about helping those in need and being more human than most humans themselves. He’s a great character and I truly believe James Gunn’s vision, and DC studios, will do him justice. I am so incredibly pumped for this movie!
Sadly, Baby O will still be too little so I can’t take him to the movies with me. But one day we will sit down and watch this together. It will be a really special moment. With my luck, he’s going to love Batman! But that’s okay I guess…
I hope you enjoyed this post. Don’t forget to like and subscribe!
