Well, I’m a dad!

Well it’s been quite the week! Baby Oliver was born and so much has happened. For starters I’m a dad. That’s still sinking in. We are so happy and feel so blessed to have a successful adoption journey, and we’re so excited to be the parents of this beautiful baby boy!

When we started the adoption process almost two years ago, we knew it was going to be a long and tough road. We tried our best to stay positive. There were times when it felt like it was never going to happen and I was mentally preparing myself for that scenario. Thankfully, God had other plans and we were eventually picked. And now we have baby O in our lives and we can’t imagine it any other way.

The night he was born the room was filled with so many emotions. Happiness and sadness. Nervousness and excitement. You name it, it was being felt.

The hospital was great. The nurses and doctors were so helpful and kind. We are so appreciative to them for showing us how to take care of a baby lol! And for calming our nerves and reassuring us we were doing everything correctly.

The food, on the other hand, was awful. I know there wasn’t going to be gourmet meals, but the cafeteria could have provided better food and service. The workers didn’t even keep the food warm! Anyways, that’s beside the point. The food was gross, that’s the end of the rant.

For over a week now we are running on little sleep. However, we are starting to get into a groove. Lea and I have been taking turns staying up with him each night since that’s when he decides to get fussy lol. We’re slowly learning what is upsetting him and how to calm him down, but it obviously takes a lot of work! From 8 p.m. to around 3 or 4 a.m., baby O is restless. Doesn’t sleep, moving constantly, screaming. All the normal baby things! He settles down and eats eventually, but it’s a whole ordeal!

The cats are still warming up to him. Winston, our kitten, LOVES his new baby brother. He understand that, like him, baby O is a baby. He’s very protective of him and brings him toys to play with all the time. It’s so sweet!

He’s already met so many people. Both of his grandmother’s were waiting for him when we brought him home. He’s been so loved! He eats, poops, and sleeps all the time (in that order). He’s almost like a normal baby, except for the fact that he is perfect! I may be biased, but oh well.

He spits up on our clothes, farts in our hands, and screams all night – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

*One of my favorite pics of him so far lol* It was a long wait, but we finally got there. God has blessed us beyond our wildest dreams. Baby Oliver is the perfect baby and, obviously, totally worth the wait. We’re so appreciative of all the support we received from our family and friends throughout all of this, and we can’t wait to make more lifelong memories with our son throughout the years.

We love you, baby O!
