The Chicago Bulls just wrapped up a big game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Yes, it’s nice to win, and yes, it was such an exciting game, but there is still a lot wrong with this team. Tonight let’s go over that. We’ll talk the good, the bad, and the fun!
A huge steal from Demar DeRozan followed by a great assist to Ayo Dosunmu sent this game into over time. Ayo was quick to the rim for a big – time dunk. It was exciting, it was reassuring, and it lead to the big win against a very tough Eastern Conference opponent. Although I am excited for my favorite team, it wears off fairly quickly. This team is so inconsistent and nobody can figure out exactly why.
So, what is going on with the Bulls? Per Bulls insider K.C. Johnson on Twitter, “Bulls are 7-1 vs. Bucks, Celtics, Nets, and Heat”. That is great, it really is, but it is painful as a fan to see them beat the best teams in the East, then go and lose to some of the worst teams in the league. It’s embarrassing and its infuriating as a fan because we know how much potential this team has. It’s not like they don’t have talented players. They have three all – stars in LaVine, DeRozan and Vucevic. So why can’t they play like it together?
It’s the inconsistency that has other teams around the league waiting patiently to see if Chicago makes any trades before the deadline. It’s the inconsistency that has fans so upset with this team, it’s coach, players and management. I hope they figure it out soon. Apparently a week or two ago there was a big argument in the Bulls locker room when they were getting their butts kicked in Minnesota. After that the Bulls went on a three game win streak – then they lost to the worst team in the NBA. Shocking! (Not really).
When a team is this inconsistent, there’s always talks of a trade. Like I said, there are teams patiently waiting to see what the Bulls will give up (if they give up anything). Management really likes this group and has stressed repeatedly they wanted “continuity”, so I don’t see them making any big changes in the near future. They also gave head coach Billy Donovan and extension recently, so he is also here to stay. I don’t see what they can do, or who they can, or will, trade.
LaVine signed a max contract in the off-season, making him the highest paid player on the Bulls, and our “star”. However his play this season has many people asking if he was worth that contract. Overall, I think he can be. I think he can be the “hero” this team needs, but all season long it seems like the “hero” on the team is DeRozan. He’s always the one with the ball in his hands in late game situations like tonight. He’s always taking the last shot for the win. Not LaVine. So it makes sense to wonder who is the real leader of the team.
Alright, I’m done ranting for tonight, but I want to say a couple more things! Although there were periods where the Bulls struggled offensively and defensively, there were also times where they played great. I think this team can turn it around, but I will also be surprised if they make the playoffs. Either way, at least the games are exciting! Go Bulls!
