No, reading comics isn’t nerdy. I just thought it was a funny title. Maybe dorky? I’m not sure – you tell me. I hope you all had a great Christmas and were able to spend tons time with family!
Unfortunately, we lost power on Friday, so we weren’t able to spend the night at my mom’s. But it’s okay! We ended up having a good time for the two hours our power was out. We got our book-lights out and sat on our couches and read. I have no idea what Lea is currently reading. She finishes her books so fast, but I am reading the second book in the Chronicles of Atlantis series by Chris Paras. It’s called Dark Tides and it’s really good! Especially if you like archeology mixed with history. Alright, I’m getting a bit off topic here, so I’ll finish with this: the series is really good!
Besides that book, I’ve been flying through comic stories like crazy. They’re so entertaining I don’t know why I just started reading them this year. As I said in my last post about comics, I’ve been reading a ton of Superman stories and, as entertaining as they’ve been, I needed a break. So naturally I read two really great stories about his two closest friends: Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. I didn’t want to stray too far away from Superman, and I’m glad I didn’t!
The first one I read is about Lois Lane, and it’s conveniently titled Lois Lane. No I’m not joking. It’s a twelve – issue series about her and this series of lead’s she follows. Here is the summary from DC Universe Infinite website (It’s also an app): “Lois Lane investigates a high-stakes conspiracy in a thrilling series from the critically-acclaimed team of writer Greg Rucka and artist Mike Perkins.” I don’t want to spoil any of it (in case some of you find it interesting and want to read it) but it’s SO GOOD. It’s one of my favorite stories I’ve read so far. I really hope James Gunn and DC/Warner Brothers casts her character well for the live-action movies, and I also hope they give her a couple solo – films and/or series! She’s a great character and needs to be explored more in their movies!
The second series I read is called Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen. It’s also a twelve – issue series and it is also very good. Once again, I recommend. Throughout the series Jimmy gets into all kinds of shenanigans. This series perfectly sums up this character because he is the only person in the DC Comics universe who can get into these kinds of situations lol. It’s such a great story. It’s funny, it’s serious, and we also get a different look at Batman. Here is the summary from the DC Universe Infinite website: “Jimmy Olsen must die! Wait, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Jimmy Olsen lives! Superman’s best friend and Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen tours the bizarre underbelly of the DC Universe in this new miniseries featuring death, destruction, giant turtles and more! It’s a centuries-spanning whirlwind of weird that starts in Metropolis and ends in Gotham City. And then we kill Jimmy.” Trust me…that didn’t ruin anything for you if you want to read it. I also hope his character is cast well in the movies and TV shows they are going to produce. Like Lois Lane he has so much to offer the movie world, and I think he will instantly be a fan – favorite!
Lastly, and currently, I am reading another Superman story. This one is one of the New – 52 stories and it is titled Superman Unchained. It’s a ten – issue series about Superman going up against a “new powerhouse” (according to the DC Universe Infinite site). So far it’s really cool and the artwork is awesome. The story is just starting to pick up and I’m excited to see which direction it goes.
So, that is it for now on the comic front. Whenever I read more stories I am really enjoying I will obviously hop back on here and let you all know. Even if you don’t care!
