NBA summer league started today for the Chicago Bulls, and to say it went well is an understatement. They faced off against the Dallas Mavericks and ended up winning in overtime 100-99, thanks to the final second foul Marko Simonovic drew in order to get to the free-throw line and score the winning bucket.
Although the Bulls had 21 turnovers throughout the game, they found a way to come out on top, and I don’t think they could have done it without Marko Simonovic bulking up this summer and getting better day-by-day. Not even a joke, I think he put on twenty pounds of muscle this off-season, and it showed. Simonovic came out hot going three-for-three to start the game. He cooled off a bit, but ended the game with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks. That is HUGE. The Bulls have been looking for someone to back up Vucevic, and if he continues to develop, Simonovic could be that guy.
I know we just got Andre Drummond, but I’m sure the Bulls front office will throw some extra minutes Simonovic’s way. They have to if he continues to play like this. Don’t let anyone ever tell you hard work doesn’t pay off. Next up, Dalen Terry. Terry played very well, making pretty passes and energizing his team on the floor. He finished with 9 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Not a bad start for the rookie. After watching today’s game, I think he has a pretty bright future in Chicago ahead of him. All in all, the young Bulls played pretty well, and they are only going to get better.
In other news, I have not been feeling well lately, so I missed a few key free-agency updates. The Bulls recently signed Goran Dragic, a 36-year-old NBA veteran guard. Time will tell how I feel about this signing, since the Bulls have too many guards on the team currently. Will his mentoring of the young players help? Does this mean Lonzo Ball is not getting better? Will Dragic end up having a great season? We will see, I don’t really have anything else to say about the signing right now.
Lastly, Zach LaVine officially signed his contract. Originally, when I last wrote, it was just a verbal contract. However, either today or yesterday, he officially put it in ink, making him the only player in Bulls franchise history to get a max contract like this. It should be an exciting season and I can’t wait to see what is in store for this team. They have so much potential, if they can just stay healthy!
